RACING The new F1 game from Codies

What about the real test, you know, the really really really important one:

Driving round the track backwards to see how much of a mess you can make the AI's cars into. :laugh

I remember in GP 2 (or 3 or 4 - can't remember), if you went round backwards, you could send them flying backwards in two pieces. Unrealistic, yes. Fun? Hell yeah!

Anyway, going by the reviews I've read so far, it's got a good chance of being bought. PC Gamer's review will settle matters - and I'm going to wait until I get the magazine. ;)

I remember turning off car damage and driving back hitting all cars if I was coming last or so. :p

I was hoping to pick this game up today being a huge F1 fan, unfortunately both Tesco and Sainsbury's had sold out :(

I will have to go and visit Game tomorrow, although the people in tesco said they get new stock every day.

Can whoever has this elaborate a bit on the career mode and how it is different to the career mode on F1 CE.

Also is the online play any better? F1CE was pretty ████ online

They're expecting sales of 2 million in Europe, not surprised there'd be more emphasis on a game selling 10x (guessing, but doubt it's far off) what IC'10 did.

Mark - Career mode has a press element to it. Basically, you are the driver in a championship, rather than a bloke who races around circuits. You've got numerous press conferences and your responses dictate future events.

F1 online looks quite decent. 4 modes iirc. One is endurance (mandatory pit stop, 20% race distance, dynamic weather and random grid), another is Pole Position, fastest lap over 20 minutes wins. Sprint, which is 3 laps in the dry with random grid/ Online GP, 7 laps, dynamic weather, grid is decided by 15 mins qualification and must pit once.

Those are the 4 quick mode options, there is also a Custom Match option. Don't know what this is, but presumably it's fairly open with what you want to do.

Apart from that, got a very similar layout to DIRT2 online. XP given for various things.

I like the sound of career mode, especially the idea of better looking girls turning up when you start doing well - oh and more journalists wanting to talk.

The acid test is how it stands up to Geoff Crammond's GP4 - at least it is for me - how is the handling? Does it nail it the way GP4 did?

apparently the handling is one of the best parts of the game. along with the weather and the career.

Sounds very detailed, might think about getting this but I am saving my cash for Ps Move and the big ant cricket game that uses that technology.

Looks to have got too many bugs. Let's just hope they fix them all soon.

And btw, can you change teams in career modes as I don't want to be sticking with the same team for 5 seasons.

Yep, the length of career determines what teams you start in, for example I'm doing 7 season and am in a Lotus. Do 3 seasons and you get to choose one of the top, 5 and one of the middle teams.

The handling is superb. It's a bit buggy, but the pit stop bug, for example, can be overcome by pitting at a different time to the AI. It's not one of those games where the bugs hold it back a lot, certainly not how I've found it.

I already knew that but is it like F106 where if you drive well, you get offers from other teams.

It's a bit buggy

What do you mean 'bit buggy', over on the F1 forums shows about 100 different bugs. Is online play any good? I guess I'll find out soon enough anyway. I hate it that they don't make any post deliveries on the weekend.

What is the pit stop bug?

The issue is that the game is way too cautious when letting you go in the pits, so if others pit with you, it'll take a long time to get you out. Get around it by simply pitting when others don't.

hedger, not tried online yet. Codies racing games tend to be good online (Dirt 2 is excellent). Yes, there are quite a few bugs in it. But it doesn't feel buggy to the extent that IC'10 does, it doesn't affect it that much from my experience. Especially as some of them can be controlled.

This game is amazing, the handling is very responsive, but it's not too difficult. The sound is great and so is the weather. The only problems are not being able to leave the pits quickly on stops if there are others pitting, the damage is quite basic, front wings come apart very realistically but its no where near GRID damage, takes a while for tyres to come off, and tyre walls aren't moveable, and the press in career mode are quite basic, and the responses are very limited too.

Does any one have this on PS3?
