Semifinals and Final

As far as I know; India just won the equivalent of the ICC Champions Trophy not the equivalent of the ICC World Cup.

Ok, but whats the difference between Champions Trophy and World Cup? All the major sides take part, and its a competition to detemine the best team. The ICC is doing two different tournaments in the same format just to earn quick money. As far as the difference goes, nothing in it.

Where did you get that information from ?
I was looking for a source but could`nt find one.
The ICC President in his speech said that the next edition of this tournament will be held in England in 2009.

Can some one get that video of Speed's speech? That would mean that the tournament in England in 2009 will be the second edition of this one and it wont be the official World Cup that some people are so eager to paint.

here's the fact from official icc website-

"The ICC Board agreed to the inclusion of an ICC World Twenty20 competition at a meeting in April 2006.
It was agreed that the inaugural event would take place in South Africa in September 2007, with the second event scheduled for England and Wales during the ICC's Centenary Year in 2009.
The remaining period up to 2015 will be taken up either by one or two further ICC World Twenty20 competition, depending on the success of those first two events."

Yes Yes. India are then the first World 20-20 Champions. The next edition wont give us the official World Cup champions.

Yes you got to be in India to feel this victory.People are dancing on the streets lol.And BCCI have decided that there will be a winning march from Airport to Wankhede stadium when Indian team returns.I think this is the first time we will see something like this.Waiting for wednesday.

Hope there are some pictures of this event. Dhoni must be proud and it must feel very special. He has done what no other captain apart from Kapil Dev could do, and he has done it in his first international seriss.

I think India is the deserved winners. They only lost one game in the tournament and that too by a marginal 10 runs. And talk about slaying the dragons - Full strength England, Australia, South Africa, Pakistan , back to back matches. I love the Indian team when they win consistently doesn't matter what format. Twenty20 is here to stay and as it happened with the 50 overs, this format is going to take off thanks to Asian teams. I mean look at Sri Lanka, they smashed 260 odd the other day!!!!!

But I dont think they will play this format as a full fledged bilateral series of 5-7 matches. They will have at the maximum of 2-3 games in between ODI's. But these World Cups would be good. In domestic cricket, Twenty20 would do really well. Will bring crowds to domestic cricket. India can benefit from it pretty well.

Well done to dhoni as well, he has perofrmed brilliantly. Not to cricticise but when things were going bad for India during match situations when Dravis was captain, all he would do was keep his shades on looking depressed and just stood there with his hands on his hips. Whereas with Dhoni you will have noticed, if he has to run halfway across the pitch to speak to his team-mate - he will, and what i liked most of all in pressure situautions he told his players to 'enjo'y it, therefore teaching the team how to enjoy the game again. To be honest when Dravid was captaining the whole team didn't look like they wanted to be on the pitch...

Well done Dhoni!!! - I'm backing you for test captain as well!!!

I agree with your views on Dhoni's captaincy. He has won us the World Cup in his first tournament as captain. His captaincy had a major role in our victories.

Australia will play 7 odi's and 1 20-20 in the upcoming tour of India.

I guess Malik's comment on Muslims living in the world is going to create a big furore in the coming days (its already started in some message boards). Probably will end with an apology rendered by Malik.

Yeah. I thought that was really unappropriate.

Definately, he should appologise, i think he was not in a right state of mind that time when he was saying those things .

congrats to India they played brilliantly and deserved the win.. credit goes to pakistan who fought to the end..

Congrats to India unlucky pakistan..

p.s. all pakistani fans out there we should be proud of how our boyz played and what a final it turned out to be.. do not be p1ssed of bout this.. yeah sure we lost to india again and it hurts

but credit must be given to Malik and Lawson how they gelled a group of players together..

And India we look forward to the next meeting when Pak tour Ind
The most important thing for us is supposed to be an exciting game! A game which comes down to the wire and not a final that was played between Srilanka and Australia a few months ago! I m proud that Pakistan got this far and allllllllllll the credits go to Misbah-ul-Haq...Who after being brought back in the team after soooooooo many long years and still performing soooooooo good and becoming the third highest scorer and in my opinion, he deserved the man of the series award more than any1 else! So :cheers for Pakistan and CONGRATULATIONS to our Neigbours! I already told my sister...no matter who wins! After all Pakistan and India are neighbours and clooooooooooose neighbours!

Definately, he should appologise, i think he was not in a right state of mind that time when he was saying those things .
Wht did he say???

If you notcied here, we're talking aboutthe present, not the future, not the past - its whats happened just now what is important

well then we could say that india beat england last year 5-1 in the ODI series, but lost 4-3 this year, you dont hear any indian fans still boasting about that anymore do you now? - becuase its in the past!!!

He's Bengali (chronic dissenter-I know because half my family (from my dad's side is Bengali.))

You know what they say about Bengalis.

Yousuf Pathan looked very promising during his short innings. Also he is a more than useful off spin bowler. We could have an allrounder in him. He is more of a bowling allrounder, I heard (not sure if its right). He can come in at 7 or 8 and totally wreck havoc at the end.

fact:
"India is crowned the ICC World Twenty20 champions"
so Indians are world champions!!

Its not ur business, what i am  a raitor or a patriot  i am an indian, that doesnt mean i will support india .

because you're a bandwagoner :) .. Also, you talk about ODIs and how India isn't as good in ODIs. Well - newsflash - ODIs are dying. They rarely bring exciting games (not my personal opinion, but the opinion of experts in ICC). This is why they came up with all these rules for the 50 over game to make it more batsman friendly and also why they started 20-20. And since you specifically said that India aren't good in the long matches, but are good for short ones, you're wrong. The longest matches are test matches, not ODIs. India are a very formidable test side. They're no Australia, but rank #3 in tests isn't something to be ashamed about (http://www.icc-cricket.com/icc/rankings/). Also, my prediction is that ODIs will slowly die away and be replaced by 20-20's. The 2007 ODI world cup was a debacle compared to this 20Twenty World Tournament. I have no problem with this as long as test matches still occur. Since 20-20 matches last shorter, teams can have tours with a higher percentage of test matches than they had with ODIs + test matches series.

Anyway, India are Twenty Twenty World Champions, not World Cup holders. So I guess its similar to winning the ICC Champions Trophy in ODIs. Good match by Pakistan, they played really well as well, but there had to be a winner. I was kind of rooting for another bowl out though.

Also, I've realized that I find Harsha Bhogle's commentary extremely annoying. He's scatterbrain and talks about completely different things in following sentences. He never has anything to say that is in-depth and always goes to the extreme when praising people or teams. Another thing I didn't like is when the Pakistani captain specifically said that he wants to thank all Muslim supporters, as if the people that aren't Muslim that support Pakistan don't deserve his thank you. Anyway, I will stop talking about this as its controversial.

Good game overall. Great performances by all.
