A Decade At A Close - what has been the best innings of the last ten years?

ODI:
Tendulkar knock today, definitely one of the best you will see.
Ponting 140, 2003 World cup final. Another brilliant innings and it was in the biggest stage of them all. His 164 in the first ever 400 was another Ponting special.
Gibbs 175, 2006 World Record run chase. This definitely has to be in here considering what Gibbs helped pull off.

Test:
Laxman 281, didn't get to see it but it was series changing and possibly history changing given Australia were looking at 17 wins in a row and more.
Lara 400, have to put it in here since its the world record score.
And the Ponting and KP knock that Skater mentioned.

ODI:

Tendulkar 175 vs. Australia last night
Grame Smith 141 vs. England

Test:

Brian Lara 400*

T20I:

Chris Gayle 117 vs. SA

The best test match innings ever?

Kamran Akmal. 109 vs India, after coming in at 39/6.

Truly the greatest.

I'll have to get back to you on the ODI innings.

Best innings thats to be choosen also should consider the amount of pressure etc.
As far as sachin's innings goes most of the time under pressure he will crumble.

Michael Clarke's match saving innings in the Ashes 09 , i think in the 3rd test was just awesome. So was Ricky ponting's 100 while chasing 300 in a recent ODI in which he got his side home!

Also more than sachin I would value Laxman and Gambhir's knocks better

Maybe not just an innings. But the rise of Phillip Hughes Vs. South Africa. Thats my pick of the bunch.

It was good but doesn't compare to Laxman's 281. Following on against Australia, 4 wickets down early and Laxman continues to fearlessly sparkle against the likes of McGrath and Warne. Great knock.

Well thats my pick, obviously everyone else's choice is going to differ from each others - doesn't mean this is any different.

ODi's are an interesting one. Been some stunning knocks. Gilly's in the WC final, Sachin's against Australia yesterday, Gibbs' against Australia, Pontings in the WC final; the list goes on. One I'd like to mention though, is Kevin Pietersen's against NZ last year, where we first saw the switch hit. It was such a good innings, and as far as I can recall almost flawless. He built his innings beautifully before really getting on with it towards the end and hitting Styris for 6 with those 2 switch hits. Awesome innings.

Test match innings are precious than ODI's and that too when the ball is moving and its tough to bat on!!! Michael clarke, Ponting, VVS Laxman, Kamran I rate these guys knocks very highly.

Sehwag's 300 wasn't anywhere near as flawless as Lara's, and didn't break a world record.
Actually, it did. It was the fastest triple century in Test cricket.

While Lara's 400 does deserve a mention, I think there have been far more valuable, entertaining and important innings been played. For example, Laxman's 281 was played while following on and having lost the top order, down 1-0 in a 3-Test series against the best team in the world. I think the concentration was certainly comparable to Lara's 400.

Dravid's 180 in that very same match is also a very, very underrated innings. He was totally out of form, batting at number 6 (where he hasn't played much) against the best attack in the world. He was the grit, concentration, and focus behind Laxman's flourishing innings.
