With the boundary ropes being brought in closer everyday and the batting paradises we see everyday, I'm surprised no one has done it. They all tend to choke just going past Anwar's record much less 200.

There's a whole host of things that would need to be just right :-

- boundaries close enough to make for plenty of fours and sixes
- batsman at the crease long enough to face the balls required to score that kind of tally. A run a ball would mean they'd have to face 2/3 of the (legal) deliveries, more likely they'd have to hit a double off 150 balls or less
- batting conditions favourable, bowling attack not threatening (much) and
- a bit of luck, to be hitting enough fours and sixes would not be easy without offering up a chance - a good bowler would throw in enough yorkers and slower balls to make attacking every ball risky

Let's face it, I don't think it's choking or because it can't be done, more likely that in spite of flatter wickets and bigger scores, it is just VERY difficult to do. Like scoring 400 was a rarity and took a very long time before someone cracked it, it needed a lot of factors in favour of Lara on top of his ability and the match situation such that records could be factored in alongside or ahead of winning. It would probably have to be an opener which reduces it to a smaller number, or number three coming in early.

Gotta laugh at the suggestion Afridi could do it, he averages a meagre 23.18 in ODIs, his SR is good enough but the problem is that he only stays at the crease 26 balls on average. (SR x average, not an exacted figure gained from somewhere) With only four hundreds in 275 knocks and a HS of 109 I think I could put my house on Afridi not getting 200. He's opened 145 times so it's not as if he hasn't had chances to make bigger scores.

At the moment I'd suggest Sehwag could do it, might need a bit of help from a groundsman making a nice flat track with boundaries nice and short and perhaps a seven match series against Bangladesh - might need to win the toss and/or bat first mind

Where is SL:facepalm

Dilshan is one of the player can reach to 200 in ODI's

I think it will happen between two associates. Some Irish player against the Kenyans or something similar.

The next world cup seems a chance. Flat tracks, the occasional small ground and the minnow nations.

Yeah lot of records against with some associates nations. But their is some records against good Teams too.

Highest Test Partnership - SA
Highest Test Score - IND
Fasted ODI 50 - PAK
Highest 1st Wicket partnership for ODI -ENG..Etc :D

If and when it happens it will be the death of ODI cricket for me. It would be on a very flat pitch which just makes the game pointless as there is nothing even very good bowlers can do about it

Speaking of flat ODI pitches, why not hold an ODI the day after, or two days after a Sheffield Shield match? That way, you'd get a pretty interesting pitch.

Do you think we'll ever see three centuries in an ODI innings? Or has it happened already?

Dhoni came close when he was 183* against SL with 4-5 overs left but India won :(

LOL :rtfl

India was batting first then and Dhoni batted till the 50th Over.
He struck a six on the last ball when he was on 177.

Then, Sri Lanka had to chase the target.

Are you a dumb? India was batting second and were chasing the target. Not to forget that Dhoni made the record of highest run in the second innings by a Wicket keeper batsman.

Yudi, you're a fliping idiot. You don't know anything if it's better than Sehwag.

That used to be the norm from the early 90's until Fox/Optus started covering the One Dayers in 1995, and more matches were scheduled. The domestic competition used to be pretty small. After the 1996 World Cup more matches were added and its grown ever since. In fact, it happens a few times a season now anyway that a one dayer comes after the FC match.
