Personally I would like to see Jimmy Anderson be picked for the Ashes especially ahead of Sajid Mahmood. As far as Simon Jones is concerned his chances of playing are very slim which is a huge blow since England have no real decent paceman,at the moment, other than Hoggard and Harmison.

PS-I have seen both Asif and Jimmy Anderson play, and I would take Jimmy over Asif due to his better ability to adapt. Sorry Mods I know this was kinda off-topic, but I had to get it out. ;)

It's unlikley that Anderson will be at the Ashes either according to some articles. It is a shame if he doesn't play though.

personally I would hate it to see Jimmy not play in the Ashes. I watched every match of India vs England series and by far I felt Anderson did a really good job bowling. Hes kinda unlucky in wickets :crying though; he can get edge as soon a slip fielder is moved to a different spot (reminds me of SreeSanth).

We mustn't rush him back is the problem though andy.

Fracturing a ...(the name of the bones on the spine in the back bemuses me for the moment) is very serious, even if I can't remember it's name :D

Damn you mental blocks!

Yeah, it's a long way off, but if he doesn't feature in the Ashes or the World Cup, imagine how fresh and ready he will be for the West Indies in the summer. Although, Jones will probably be back then though.

Hopefully.

Both of them have very serious injuries though.

At the end of the day what is more important a career or cricket or one ashes series?

The knee surgeon Jones has used (Vaughan) also Dr Steadman is known as the best knee surgeon in the world. Irani's knee hasn't broken done in a long time, although he doesn't bowl anymore.

Yep, I'd rather Jones and Anderson take 300 wickets each than ruin there careers by being rushed back.

oh I didn't know how severly they were injured actually. I just want to see S Jones bowl his reverse swing. I have never seen Simon Jones bowl (You have to pay a lot of money :mad for a series of cricket in the US). I feel then Glen Chapple or Chris Tremlett need a call up for England to retain the Ashes. I just dont think Sajid Mahmood is upto the task (a gut feeling maybe)

I think it would be hard to reverse it in Australia....thats what I heard

I think it will be another great series..England have found form again..
Ironically, Pakistan were the team to bring England down after Ashes..and Pakistan are the team that have given them their confidence back!

It's possible to reverse it but it won't be like England where it starts reversing after 15 overs. Ahktar has got it going over here, and Lee has done it in ODIs.

It's the Kookaburra ball down under right?

Are there many low pitches on the Test grounds in Aus?

Like some of the sub-continent pitches are?

there's no low pitches in aus - brisbane and adelaide are probably the lowest, but they'd compare to the bounciest pitches in pommy land.

speaking of pitches...well more so grounds in general - that ground in the last paki v pom test was one of the ugliest grounds i've ever seen in terms of the outfield - it was an absolute wreck and they made it even worse by spreading the sand around to fill in the potholes - was there a concert there before it or something?

we use the kooka - it can swing, conventionally and reverse....but only at a couple of grounds if the conditions are right...which usually occurs maybe 2 sessions per summer. it comes really late on with the old ball, and really only after it's been pumped into the stands countless times by aussie batsmen.

the grounds are massive - there's heaps more 3s run - you have to cream the ball to get it to the boundary. it's a lot easier to put men in the deep and sucker the batsmen into the big shot. there's none of the top edge sixes you see in england...they are out shots.

and last but not least - the umpires love us at home. the decisions will go our way, which will be 80% of the battle this time around.

The outfield was very dry because we've had a drought and exceptionally dry summer.

I mowed the grass today (first time in about 6 weeks) There was no grass in the middle of the garden, it was mainly where the path was and where when it has rained the water had run off it, and under the trees.

We've had a very hot and very dry summer.
