England's squad to be announced on Friday (Jan 13th), and India's I believe will be named after their tour of Pakistan is completed.

Well, England fans can speculate about the squad selection before it happens.

Exactly! There were threads for India in Pakistan long, long ago so :p

Anyway. Hopefully Simon Jones will be fully fit for this tour, how much difference he would've made in Pakistan I don't know but we certainly missed the balance of our usual bowling attack in my opinion. However, if the batsman perform like they did in Pakistan then the bowlers may aswell stay in England.

What does everyone think about Wessels saying England should take Monty Panasar? He's certainly got the advantage of being a more long-term option than Udal or Keedy but on the other hand putting young spinners into big series hasn't worked out for us too well in recent times... think Schofield and Batty.
I'd give him a chance personally; we need to take two spinners and Udal shouldn't be on the plane. I know the pitches in Pakistan weren't offering much but frankly he looked out of his depth.
I'd still play four seamers, one spinner in the tests with Jones fit again but Panasar would get a chance if Gilo didn't perform or got injured again.
My team for the first test (ignoring the pitch):
Tresco
Strauss
Bell
Vaughan
Joyce or Shah
Flintoff
G Jones
Giles
Hoggard
Harmison
S Jones

Definitely should take Panesar even if it's just for experience. If they take Udal I'll cry. Interesting batting line up there Colin, Bell at 3 and Pietersen not even in the picture? I would've kept the side that played in the first four Ashes tests to be honest although I know what you think about Pietersen!

He's definitely in my ODI team but unless we want another batting series of 450ao or 150ao every innings we need players who can still play their strokes but also reign it in and graft.

I feel India has the edge in the test matches! In the ODI's, its a closer call but there too, I feel India has again the edge over the English team!

Expected Big Moments:

Flintoff VS Ganguly battle (if they face each other in either of the series!)

Giles VS Tendulkar (Want to see Sachin smash the hell out of Gilo who irritated him with that leg stump line in that 2002 series!)

England desperatly need a descent spinner for this tour. i think (and hope) India win will both the One Dayers and the Test Matches. does anyone know of the Umpire appointments?? or where i can find them? i feel that Kumble will do the most damage with the Ball for India and for england, probably Jones if he's fit. WIth the bat, Tendulkar naturally, and for England, for some reason i have an inlkling about BEll after the Pakistan tour.

here are my Line ups.

India
Ghambir
Sehwag
Dravid
Tendulkar
Laxman
Ganguly
Dhoni
Pathan
Agarkar
Harbhajan
Kumble

England
Tescothick
Strauss
Bell
Vaughan
Pietersen
Flintoff
Prior
Giles
Hoggard
Jones
Harmison

*these are for the long game

This obsession with Simon Jones is unhealthy :p

Strangely I agree with the aussie fella, Tsyrmas. England need a good spinner to take. Giles is ok, but is not going to turn in match winning bowling performances.

Oh poor Sachin.

KP is a must Colin, nearly 650 runs in 8 tests is brilliant, plus KP has a tremendous record in India for the A team.

My team.

Tres
Strauss
Vaughan
Bell
KP
Flintoff
I'd like to see Read back, as you can't afford to drop catches in India, but Jones will play unfortunately.
Loudon
Hoggard
harmison
Simon jones.

A tough tour ahead.

Take read and we lose some batting ability, Jones is improving, theres no point in him being dropped. Matt Prior I think is ahead of Read at the moment and rightly so.

Not that I have a problem with this thread, but the thread made about India in Pakistan tour was temporarily closed until the England in Pakistan tour ended. IIRC, that thread was never reopened since another thread was started about India vs Pakistan.

Now, I can't see any of the spinners apart from Giles is going to trouble the Indian batsmen, they are the best in the world, when it comes down to playing spinners.
Also, Nagpur and Mohali are seamer friendly wickets, so spinners definitely not going to get much assistance. Mumbai, I don't know, it behaves differently every second match.

Giles probably won't do much either.
