Are you forgetting a certain man that runs the ICC?

Nah, ha - the power brokers in cricket have allowed Srinivasam & India to feel like they can't be touched. All cricket had to do recently led by AUS/ENG was call India bluff and see if they would aa really walk away from world cricket. Srini is a clown....

Sepp Blatter confirms he will run for FIFA presidency - ESPN FC

Ha, the entire football world (well Europe to be specific) just had a collective groan of disgust to this. :facepalm

When you think about FIFA problem, its funny to assess the dynamics which makes Blatter so confident of running for a 5th term - despite UEFA opposition.

Outside of direct FIFA assistance via goal projects, other financial aid - the entire football world when looks to Europe for betterment of its players financially - cause except for MLS, Liga MX Mexico, Argentine, Brazil leagues - no league outside Europe pays well enough. Many small clubs from unknown leagues around the world basically run a business of selling their best players somewhere in Europe at the 1st opportunity.

Yet when it comes time to vote for change in FIFA, they all forget the what UEFA does for them & FIFA gifts are enough for them to forget all the accusations & UEFA major nations level at FIFA/Blatter.[DOUBLEPOST=1410235224][/DOUBLEPOST]Member of Fifa financial watchdog arrested on money-laundering charge | Football | The Guardian

The debate over a winter World Cup in 2022 is bigger than FIFA - ESPN FC

"The real elephant in the room is the human rights condition in Qatar. It's beyond shameful that the focus remains on host selection corruption, moving the tournament to winter, etc. when slave labor is being used to build infrastructure for this WC. The outrage is completely misplaced and it makes everyone ignoring the human rights conditions over there, whether media, FIFA officials, politicians, or fans, look completely pathetic. Forget the corruption of selecting hosts, forget the summer/winter debate. Until the working conditions of laborers (and not talking about wages) are addressed none of this other stuff matters."

presumably the most sensible thing to happen regarding the qatar fiasco is for a bunch of UEFA boards to boycott it. on human rights grounds and on grounds that a winter schedule will wreck their leagues and a summer one will wreck their players. other sporting events have gone in the past but spain, england, italy, germany and france all saying no (and presumably a bunch of other european teams could chip in as well) would hold way more sway than the USA not turning up to the moscow olympics.

  • Interesting tweet by notable journalist Simon Evans on this issue:

"Once again FIFA story all over UK sports media. But not top news in Gazzetta, Marca, L'Equipe, Globo or ESPN.

And that is a big difference with IOC/Salt Lake scandal. That was top news globally with a CNN van camped outside IOC HQ for days.

Negative global media coverage, esp US media, moved sponsors and others to force change. Not happening with soccer though

Why does UK media care more? Partly because FA were humiliated but also lingering sense of ownership of game/moral guardian self perception."

Fifa whistleblowers submit formal complaint over blowing their cover | Football | The Guardian

This could get FIFA into genuinely serious legal shit. Everything else is certainly very dodgy, but this is seriously illegal, and if they end up in a court somewhere in either Europe or America it could cost them an absolute fortune. There's a reason why there are strong legal protections for whistleblowers; and FIFA violating them like this is the sort of thing that could cause a total loss in trust in the organisation - if people can't share their concerns and be guaranteed anonymity, then what will have beyond closed doors in the future that we aren't aware of? Seriously, this is the sort of thing that could sink FIFA.
