Nicky Actually Takes A Wicket

1st Castle Lager Test Match
The Newlands, Cape Town
South Africa Vs Australia

The skipper?s body language showed tat actions speak louder then words for South Africa as Langer and Martyn took the game slightly more away from the home team with every run.

Smith less then impressed. How about you talk some more Graeme

Fortunately for the Proteas Nicky Boje stepped up and proved that even dinky off spinners can take wickets. That of Justin Langer as the West Australian was beaten in flight and chipped a catch to mid wicket.

Langer is dismissed softly for 66

The job is far from over for South Africa who now have to contend with a rock solid Mike Hussey ho seems to be making a habit of scoring runs at the highest level of the game.

Boje Let?s The Cat Out Of The Bag

1st Castle Lager Test Match
The Newlands, Cape Town
South Africa Vs Australia

Not even the South African fans could believe that the once useless Nicky Boje captured his second wicket. This time it was Martyn who played for spin but got none and as a result the pill crashed into the timber.

Martyn done for a lack of spin

Andrew Symonds comes to the crease on the back of an unbeaten 60 in the first innings. A sudden explosion would mean disaster for South Africa with stumps not far away. There is little doubt that Roy will be sizing up Boje here to go downtown. Australia needs no hero?s here as another hundred runs will put it out of reach for the home side.

Symonds may just play freely until stumps here

Boje Strikes Final Blow Before Stumps

1st Castle Lager Test Match
The Newlands, Cape Town
South Africa Vs Australia

Another breakthrough on the stroke of stumps for South Africa as Nicky Boje records his 3rd wicket for the statistician. Symonds will be dirty on the way back to the pavilion as he just did not want to get out this late in the day. Another dodgy decision from Bucknor won?t help cool the jets of Symonds either.

Bucknor gives his verdict on a line ball decision

Adam Gilchrist got through the final few minutes of day three with Hussey and will look to dominate tomorrow. Only one team can win this game now after Symonds short and aggressive innings. South Africa is going to have to bat for a very long period of time to save this match and even if they do they won?t score any points.

A no pressure situation for Gilchrist as Australia can't lose from here

Victimless Crimes

1st Castle Lager Test Match
The Newlands, Cape Town
South Africa Vs Australia

Wickets for South Africa now are like punching someone in the dark. It?s a victimless crime as the Australian?s simply have to great a lead. However that hasn?t stopped Nicky Boje from picking up his 4th. It was a matter of time before Gilchrist attempted to use his feet against the off spinner and when he did so he just didn?t get to the pitch and hit it down mid off?s throat.

Gilchrist is tied down and hit's straight to mid off

Shane Warne is the introduction to the crease and will partner Mike Hussey who is looking very impressive. It look?s to be a matter of time before Ponting sticks his head out the window and calls the Australians in. The question on everybody?s mind is how long do Australia need to bowl South Africa out? Judging by the first innings not long.

Australia 6/210

Warne Leaves Australia's Ballgame

1st Castle Lager Test Match
The Newlands, Cape Town
South Africa Vs Australia

Andre Nel struck back after being hit for six by Warne producing the edge to De Villiers in slip who took a comfortable catch. Nel seems to be turning up the heat now after being fined half his match fee and will serve suspension.

Warne is sent off by Nel after hitting the agro man for 6

Brett Lee who is certainly no mug with the willow comes to the crease as Mike Hussey plays his strokes getting Australia to a massive lead in this 1st test. Defiantly a better bowling display from South Africa in this innings but it is to little to late now.

Gibbs The Centre Of The Controversy

1st Castle Lager Test Match
The Newlands, Cape Town
South Africa Vs Australia

It?s a beautiful life for Mike Hussey as he racked up yet another test match half century and his second for the match. His gifted ability to leave and play the right balls was on showcase here today and continues to amaze the ticket holders.

Mike Hussey reaches another test 50

Shortly after Hussey rose the bat controversy arose and it centered around Herschelle Gibbs. To the naked eye it looked like a sharp chance in the cordon hand bounced before reaching Gibbs but the top order batsman claimed it. With the umpires unable to refer the catch to the 3rd umpire due they decided to take Gibbs word and Lee had to go.

Lee is reluctant to go but Gibbs claims the catch

Regardless of whether it was out or not Michael Kasprowicz is the new man in joining Mike Hussey. No sign of Ponting?s declaration yet as the South African opening batsman start to prepare themselves for the huge task that awaits them when it?s there turn to bat.

South Africa With History In There Way

1st Castle Lager Test Match
The Newlands, Cape Town
South Africa Vs Australia

It didn?t take long for South Africa to get rid of Kasprowicz who edged to Gbbs at gully and Clark who skied a pull shot attempt. Australia reduced to 288 but with a massive lead. Mike Hussey not out after a class knock of 55*. Graeme Smith les then impressed with the task ahead. As lunch is taken here on day 4 Southb Africa have 5 session to bat.

Smith unimpressed that the game got away from them so early

There wont be may punters out there game enough to tip South Africa to re write the record books with a run chase here. A massive 445 runs to win the 1st test for South Africa means they would have to score triple the runs they did in the first innings. It would take a very special effort to get the runs but somehow I don?t think they will get there.

South Africa Require 445 Runs

1st Castle Lager Test Match
The Newlands, Cape Town
South Africa Vs Australia

The Australian bowling attack fired in the first innings and produced one of their best displays in recent history to knock over the South African line-up cheaply. Spearheading the attack is Brett Lee who took apart the top order and finished with career best figures of 5/23 in the first innings. Can he put the batting to bed again and cap off the match.

Michael Kasprowicz returned just one first innings wicket but performed well with the leather ball and can hold high hopes for a few early wickets to really kill the spirits of the South Africans for the rest of the series.

Just three test wickets for Stuart Clark but that will improve over time. The handy line and length bowler caused problems for South Africa in the first innings and will be out to prove a point when he comes on first change. Hopefully for Australia he will be bowling to the middle order after Lee and Kaspa are threw.

If the bible said god bowled leg spin you would have to suspect that this man is he. Shane Warne has the desirable average of 23 and 24 wickets to his name already in the championship. Watch out for his input on this pitch that will offer more to him then it did in the first innings.

Not the worst part time bowler with 8 wickets to his name. Played a valuable role in the first innings but wasn?t required to fill many bowling overs. It will be interesting to see how Ponting uses him in this innings.

Smith Makes Test Pair

1st Castle Lager Test Match
The Newlands, Cape Town
South Africa Vs Australia

It has taken just 3 balls of the 2nd innings of South Africa?s record attempt for Brett Lee to take the first wicket. Graeme Smith caught of the crease and on the back foot adjacent to the stumps and given out LBW. What a start for Australia in a dream game for Lee the last 9 wickets is just a formality now. That makes a pair of ducks for Smith what a nightmare after talking up his team?s chances before the series.

Im sure nothing will prepare Smith for what he is going to cop in the media after this match is over and his team has there asses handed to them on there own home soil.

Two In No Time

1st Castle Lager Test Match

Brett Lee put another one on the shelf at 2/21 to bag 7 wickets for the match. De Villiers suffered the same fait of his skipper in being out LBW. A man of the match effort here from Lee as he yet again goes through the top order. All hope now lies with Kallis and his ability to bat for long periods of time.

De Villiers beaten for pace by Lee on what is still a lively deck

That brought Gibbs to the crease who is aggressive by nature but on this occasion he showed little interest in scoring runs and as a result was out LBW shouldering arms to a massive off cutter from Kasprowicz. The airplane took off for Kasprowicz as Dartfish shows just how much movement the ball had.

It looks ugly for Gibbs as he shoulders arms to a cutting delivery

Tea Time

1st Castle Lager Test Match
The Newlands, Cape Town
South Africa Vs Australia

Kallis and Prince are doing the short-term job at Cape Town getting the South Africans to tea on day 4. With 4 sessions still remaining in he test match and no chance of rain the outcome looks obvious. Prince will look to build on his first innings half century here as Kallis will look to make up for the poor shot he played

Kallis and Prince are the in form batsman for South Africa

Prince has sat on his bat at the non-strikers end and refused to play shots whilst Kalis is taking this innings as batting practice and doing a good job of it.

Great story mate, Aussies a given to win from here.

Just a quick question though, what patch are you using to get so much seam and so many LBWs and bowleds?

Thanks mate, Im suprised myself at how many bowled and LBW's i was getting i think it's the pitch rather then anything because it's cutting a mile and staying low. But im using a combination of patches with Vinay's strokefile and Satish's 2bb.....file and it's working well so no complaints.
