First, you get selected on account of last reputation. Then, you decide the skip the 1st T20 for personal reasons. Might as well, step aside and let someone else take over.

This behaviour from Kohli really irks me. How will the management defend this? Does he now deserve a place in the WT20? No!

If you can't play when asked to, you cannot be selected when you want to. I hope the BCCI deals with such nuances swiftly and in the right manner.

Literally everyone working in this world is legally allowed to take sick or personal days. For Kohli and all other cricketers this is their work. If they need time off for a day that is fine. Anyways these are meaningless bi-laterals. Also for Kohli he is the only guy I know in the Indian team who can show up to all matches with little to no preparation.

Just because something came up, he now deserves no place in a tournament that is going to happen 5 months later?

Should your boss fire you if your wife gets sick or you get sick or have a personal matter to take care of? Tell me honestly?

Kohli does not deserve a place in a tournament whose stadium has not been developed. You sir are great.

Don't you think he is eating up the place of another worthy candidate? To me, it seems like he is desperate to win an ICC trophy at any cost that he will throw himself into the team ,whether he is ready or not.

Furthermore, his form- yes he has scored runs, but he is clearly not T20 material. Remember that Kohli also skipped most of the T20's in the lead up to the ICC WT20 2021, where we were knocked out in the 1st round.

My point being, if your mainstream players need rest, so be it. However, if someone else has come in and performed better, that 'someone else' needs to be taken to the World Cup, not someone base doff reputation. VK has done this in the past and hurt the team's chances. Not anymore.

I accept personal matters need to be tended to, but after a point in time, even corporates will tell you- boss, sit at home, let me have someone else who can take up your project. in your absence. With Virat, he needs to prove that he fits in this side. I do not expect him to do so in the remaining 2 games (one of which he will likely sit out again, citing fatigue)

Virat has to prove to nobody. Specially not people like us sitting on a forum discussing his life. Also a squad compromises of 15-18 folks. If he does not play, someone is getting a chance. He has won us more games in recent memory than anyone else in T20’s. Virat specially has done nothing that has hurt the teams chances. From his knock in losing cause against our first defeat against Pakistan to his brilliant knock against Pakistan in Australia.

If this was someone else who has yet to prove, I would agree with you but with Rohit, Virat, Bumrah, Shami etc they have done enough and need not prove anything to anyone. I trust them and they ll show up.

Plus these meaningless bilateral literally are no use. IPL will be used to judge better and for a change that will be great seeing how close the tournament start and finals of IPL will be.

Is Shivam Dube literally forcing his way into the T20 WC squad? Two brilliant innings consecutively, and he is picking wickets with the ball too.

Huge conundrum for the selectors. But if Hardik is half-fit, I wouldn't care to pick Hardik and would actually pick Dube. Dube is not even half the bowler that Hardik is, but from a batting perspective, he seems far more aggressive than what the Hardik 2.0 has turned out to be.

Jitesh had a very good first game. I would pick him as the main wicketkeeper and have Samson as backup. And trust me - Rohit and Kohli's presence is going to complicate selection for us and is going to force us to not pick better/younger players and we could very likely return again empty handed.

I think Dube’s recent success may have more to do with Afghanis being a spin heavy team (without looking at against who his runs were scored).

EDIT - it’s 49 runs from 28 deliveries against spin. 74 runs from 43 deliveries against pace. Interesting that he’s been more prolific against pacers albeit it feels generous calling Naveen a pacer these days.

EDIT to the EDIT - so out of those 74 runs, 43 have come against Naveen in just 19 deliveries and only 12 against Farooqi from 8 deliveries. I assume the rest were against Gulbadin and Janat.

I wouldn't read too much into Dube. It is a fairly weaker attack. Also, remember that the selectors will include Virat and Rohit at any costs. If Hardik if fit, he comes in without any match practice.

Among Dube, Rinku, Tilak, only one will sadly make the World Cup team.

I like the look of Jitesh. I do believe he is in their plans for the World Cup and hope he gets selected. If the selection has moved away from Shreyas and KLR, so be it. Jitesh+Samson seems to be a good combo.

Can we have a Sportsbook event for this one? Not on the outcome of the game, but on 'Who would lead India in each of the 5 games'.

I dont understand why you would schedule a 5 match series vs Zim, after the World Cup. not as if they are gonna help in any which way. I have also been hearing that this would be followed by a tour of the Emerald Isles- been some time since we helped out our neighbours....

I know the sample size is too small but if Pant isn't able to keep for a while, I wouldn't mind Jurel taking up the reigns. Feel like Bharat was given enough chances but he never really looked like he could handle the batting part. Jurel, on the other hand, looked impressive behind the stumps. Batting wise, we will see how he fares in upcoming matches.

Jurel was brilliant behind the stumps.

Hope he does well for the long run.
