Yeh when was that 10 years ago and Ashley Giles took 3-18 in a test match against south africa this year. His bowling might be a bit wayward but for England he has averaged around 20 in all forms of the game with the bat! (macgill can't bat)

So you're playing him as a batsman that averages 20, that's really great. MacGill can actually bowl and hence play as a bowler

Well he can bowl that's why England play him as a spinnig-all-rounder. And Australia don't play Macgill anyway so you can't say they do.

what is kumble doing there. he is already 34 , can play for max 5 more years
how is he next
he is hardly ever playing in ODIs

i go with bhajji,kaneria following

Not really, that's just out of lack of better options- and no spinner could possibly get picked in front of Warne

If he only takes 55 balls per wicket it sounds like he is worth taking in the test team with warne. Infact thats better then Warnes stats right? So why doesn't he make the test team over warne????

It's actually funny you say this, because not too long ago I was looking at the records of Bill O'Reilly and Clarrie Grimmett, looking at the Test matches in which they played together and looking at how often they cleaned out the top and middle order. I'm thinking there must be something in it.

Because warne's better. Its a pity that the poms are in denial about how good our spinners really are

Any 'pom' with a cricket brain will disagree. Like me.

Australia Warne, macGill and Hogg are all classy bowlers.

Warne and Hogg are good but i just don't rate Macgill the same as those "aussies" think about Super Ashley Giles!

Giles will get obliterated by Aus as it's their plan.

macGill isn't as consistent on accuracy as Warne.

I think if macgill were anything other than aussie and in a test playin nation,he'd be first choice spinner

keep dreaming Warwickshire. England are desperate for a leggie they just haven't found one. Heck they are desperate for a spinner.

Exactly what i'm trying to say.

Well he wouldn't get in England's side because they would pick Giles every time! :):):)
Giles,is crap! How can you like, someone who rarely bowls and when he does, bowls on the leg side!

Lets see:

India- Over Kumble and Harbhajan? Naahh...Maybe as a sub.
Pakistan- Again, Mushtaq then Kaneria. Again, a sub.
New Zealand- Doubtful if they could take him over Vettori's experience and accuracy. Again, likely sub.
Sri Lanka-One word, Murali...
Bangla/Zim- Hell they'll even take him as an opening bat now :p
West Indies- If they ever decide to chose a frontline spinner, it will be him.
South Africa- They would even take Sehwag into their team for his bowling...
England- The way the destroy all their leggies, I think its doubtful he'll survive...

So he could be a frontline spinner in only 4-5 test playing nations, and a sub in most. Even then 100 tests is highly unlikely. 70 is more like what he'll get.
Dont forgot the Bangla/Zim don't play that many matches either.

Probably not India or Sri Lanka, but he's clearly better than Kaneria and Vettori. 7/9 is pretty good for a guy who can't get a game in his own country
