I voted Gareth Barry as a joke but someone seconded him and he made the list. In fairness to him though, he's shown that you don't need to be on a million quid a minute, you need to be flashy and you don't need to play for Liverpool and have Alan Hansen kissing your arse in order to play for England and do well.

Oh and as for Tom Brady; It's Sports Personality of the Year. This means that he's in someway captivate my interest and attention and personally i'd never even heard of him until I saw his name on this. Fair enough, he's pretty good at imitation commercialist Rugby, but I still class him as sporting unknown who means less to me than a dodgy curry.

What are you guys on about? This is personality of the year so it's just as much about showing character and bouncing back in your sport as it is success. I voted for Brady and Wade (Wades obviously got the factor of being a darts player) because I don't know very much about their sports, neither of them has done enough to actually warrant me ever noticing them. Now that says a lot imo. Plus Wade does darts, its a sport and theres a lot of skill but I just don't think a darts player should be held in the same regard as some of these athletes. I did hear about Wade though, Bradys just another name to me, never really earnt a major mention anywhere that I noticed and I occasionally show a bit of inerest in US football, only because its so American though and I love the way they commercialise everything

You guys are obviously part of the typical group of English fans who slag off players with no evidence to back it up and shw little respect to them. Barrys done an incredible job, not only to make himself a regular starter in the England side when he plays outside of the top 4 clubs but also to have done so well for club and country. Beckhams a legend of this country, he's been dropped by club and country after being one of the galacticos and England captain, not only did he force his way into the side wth brilliant performances he played brilliantly for Madrid and had a major role in their title win and CL campaign. He only went to America because Madrid didn't offer him a new contract, more money and he genuinely wants to develop the game over there. Beckhams shown an immense amount of character even if you choose to ignore everything else and you should give him respect for that.

My votes went to Tom Brady because I don't know who he is and Christiano Ronaldo because he's a cheat (OK almost all footballers are cheats, but he's worse than most).

A load of crap if you ask me. You have to do something that acknowledges being in the contention to win it. Beckham and barry have done naff all towards it. At least Brady has achieved and performed well enough to make his side win. @ Matt, rugby is utter rubbish compared to american football. At least they don't throw it abckwards everytime they get the ball.

Obviously this is my opinion and I respect other peoples, but I just don't see how two people can even be up there for winning it when they have done naff all towards it.

On the subject of who i think will win, most of you guys will vote for Hatton (I believe). But I reckon it'll be between Hatton, Habana and Ronaldo...

Look. Every English sports fan knows who Gareth Barry and David Beckham are. This is not the case for Tom Brady. If he was such a personality, we'd all have heard of him wouldn't we? Case rested.

Rugby is so rubbish that it's played in more countries worldwide and is ultimately more popular than American Football so yeah, correct Trev.

Why do some of you think Barry had a better year? What did he do for Villa last season that was so special?

Won their player of the year...

I told you it was my opinion. Alright just because it's a worldwide sport doesn't mean everyone likes the sport

And yeh just like I have never heard of Andy Priaulx because I don't follow touring cars. I am just backing the case of why Brady should be there in my opinion!

He had a consistant season. Beckham had a good last 3 month and was otherwse utter gash. As he was in the England games. He made a couple of successful crosses then did arse all forthe rest of the game. Give me a guy who will run all day, make crucial tackles and allow Steven Gerrard to plunge forward balancing the side we've had problems doing so for 5 years then it's a no brainer.

However, Calazaghe deserves it, unbeaten in 10 years, smashed his biggest and latest challenge and is a top bloke.

Yeah fair enough your backing him, I don't have a problem with that. But when your having a go at other people's inclusions you can't moan at us for questioning Brady's inclusion! Besides, he's probably gonna be ruled out of voting anyway barring some minor miracle.

I'd heard of him, partly due to the fact that stevie told me about him quite a while ago.

Animator's got it spot on. Gareth Barry was part of some of the best England performances under Steve McLaren (doesn't take much) whereas Beckham set up Peter Crouch for an equaliser in a game where we still lost.

I haven't moaned, I've stated how I feel about Beckham and Barry being selected. Just like you have with Brady which is fine if it is your opinion. Like i said i'm just backing up why I feel he should be there.

I suspect there's only a handful of us (myself included) on here who have, so I'll let you off. :p

Stevie, did he win the touring cars this year by any chance?
