PlanetCricket World XI

Please choose your TWO opening batsmen for the PlanetCricket World XI.

  • Total voters
    40
  • Poll closed .
* First off, sorry for not giving the opportunity to choose nominees. I was kinda knackered. I'll get Chewie to add the ones people suggest to the poll as they come in, though.
* This is selecting a test XI, but really the test of a player is whether they can play in all formats.
* As for Tendulkar, he's going to be in the middle order bats section.

So are we gonna have a discussion over the nominees for rest of the batting order?

I guess we should have a discussion for each batting position rather than taking middle order as a group...

So for number 3 i nominate:
Ponting
Dravid
AB Devilliers
Kallis
K.P

Pietersen hasn't scored a First Class ton in 18 months...

Tendulkar is a middle order bat too. It will be middle order as a group, anyway, so don't get your hopes up.

ffs.

no sangakkara. yeah, pick a load of guys that don't play at 3 and leave of one that does with highest average of any of them and 2nd in the test rankings.

Okay then... How big this group would be?? 3 batsman or 4? 3 would allow us to pick a allrounder after we pick a keeper.

Everyone's gotta have a opinion dude. I didn't pick him coz i knew he would come in as keeper.. Jeez.. :facepalm

FYI, Ponting and Dravid bat at number 3 and Kallis has 9 centuries at number 3...

Uhh, shows how much you watch test cricket. Sangakkara no longer keeps in test cricket.

he hasn't kept in about 6 years.

We are picking a current team right?? By current we mean the player who are playing at the moment. We aint picking a 2010 team. He's a damn good wicketkeeper. He doenst keep now should be a reason for his exclusion from the team.

And about how much i watch test cricket?
Well sorry, i don't have a fetish of watching Ind-Srilanka matches again and again. Thank you, i'm better off watching other nations play.

Rest you can see in the poll where i can guarantee, with Gilchrist now retired, Sangakkara would get the most votes.

Poll is close. Sehwag is certain but its a tie between Watson and Smith at the moment.

Yeah.. They should have reseted the poll. Iridium voted for everyone, so his votes are canceled :p else smith would have 11 votes

I think it would be better if chappers add some details about this team on index post. People need to be clear on this before they vote to get a logical result, otherwise it would be random.

# If it is a current team then define current? Are you talking about just how some players performed in 2010 or last 5 years or last decade or last 20 years ?

If we take 2010 or last 5 years as a limiting criteria then Sangakkara doesn't make it to the team as a Wicketkeeper. He would have to be selected as a batsman as some mentioned.
If we take a decade or more as the limiting criteria then Sangakkara can be nominated as a wicketkeeper.

First off, excellent idea, so Kudos to Chappers. :hpraise

I went with Sehwag and Smith, based more on past numbers and reputation. I think on current form, you'd have to have Watson in there somewhere. The capacity for destruction with Sehwag/Smith is much more, though. Plus the intimidation factor. And the lefty/righty combination. Too much there to not pick 'em, IMO.

I would suggest to nominate players for all middle order positions, i.e. numbers 3, 4, and 5, then let people pick their three middle order choices. The batting order would be up to each voter, i.e. they can get three players that they want and then justify the batting order as they wish.

With that said, some more names for consideration: Jayawardene, Ross Taylor(?), Mike Hussey, Laxman, Chanderpaul.
