Waking up to the sound of birds outside and the sun shining through the window was more than i could imagine. I headed down stairs and talked for a few minutes to Rossco and Innes about their selection in twenty20 sides and then went to eat breakfast with the table that consisted of Louis Coles, Sarvesh and Suren. We talked over the starting side today and the strengths of Surrey. They apparently had a solid number 3 and 4 and their number 1 openor is very defensive. Suren also mentioned a fast bowled called Marty Lear who he faced in his youth and warned of him having very very good pace.

With the starting side selected and Burden the only player who did not make the starting X1 Suren headed out with H. Knight to do the toss. With a short boundry and a hard flat pitch the only choice for the winning captain was going to be to bat first. After a few minutes of inspection we could see the umpire toss the coin and it looked like Suren had lost the toss. As he headed back to the dressing room the opposition captain signalled to the balcony they were to bat first and we headed into the changing room to prepare to go out and field in the heat for 50 overs.

Well after 20 overs the game is deffinatly not going our way, we took two wickets one to Sarvesh and one to Innes but the batsmen had played well and with both C. Sebastian and M. Rose gone it looked as if the two batters i had heard about were hear to stay. One right handed (3) and the other a leftie (4) both played with such agression and passion yet perfect technique. I could see why they were a hard side to beat, anything wayward was being punished and although he has good pace twice Rossco over pitched the ball and the left hander just smashed him over his head for 6. With the score on 116-2 from 20 we needed something magic and i could not see it happening at the moment.

So the end of the innings and oh dear we need to bat well. Me, Sarvesh and Innes were the only 3 bowlers to pck up wickets and to be honest no-one bowled especially well apart from maybe me (NOT BRAGGING;)). They scored a massive 341 and we honestly had no hand in stopping them. The leftie (4) scored a massive 61 from only 21 and hit 5 sixes including a huge sweep from Innes' bowling. The fielding was average although Suren did drop a sitter only to make up for it 3 balls later by catching the number 4 batsmen with a one handed screamer at first slip from Sarvesh's bowling. A.Nazar scored a technical 74 from 78 keeping on top of the bowlers at all times and in control. The rest of their batsmen put in good efforts although i have to commend their number 6 and captain for scoring an agressive 84. I was happy with another 5 wicket haul although with the oppo scoring 341 I honestly am just thinking about getting my head down and scoring some runs to get us back into the game.

Lunch and a tough time for the side. We sat around with little talk although for about 5 minutes Suren talked to me about being confident and trying to keep myself calm. I knew we could win the game but the chance was near impossible, 341 to win is huge and with a run rate of over 6 its always going to be hard chasing. I knew how much pressure was on the shoulders of the top 3 and although Suren and Sarvesh looked relax i knew they were both packing it inside.

So we head out to bat with Suren and Sarvesh taking the crease. As i sit and watch the two players I relax and when both are still there after 10 overs i was happy. Within 3 balls of the 10th over Suren(38 runs)went forward to his youth playing opponent Marty Lear and was clean bowled by a delivery that struck middle from the ground. With the score on 72 from 63 balls with 1 wickets down I strode out to meet the unbeated Sarvesh who remained on 58.

As I steadied to face my first ball Marty came runing out of the sun, the ball was just back of length and i decided to go forward pushing a little late towards the ball, it shot away of the edge towards the region of second slip and just between the gap were third slip should have been and second slip was. As the second slip dived to his right and didnt quite grasp the ball. My heart was beating hard and it stayed like that for the next 17 overs before Sarvesh was finally dismissed for a massive 139. We put on well over 100 and with the score on 238 from only 28 overs i saw that 103 from 22 was very very getable.

The remaining overs were simple and i brought up my hundred three balls before we won the match, Rameez also batted fabulously scoring a solid 50 and playing very well. The whole side drew togethor and it was an awesome game. I am proud of everyone and cannot wait till the final tommorow.

After the game we headed back and had a good dinner and an early night before the big game tommorow. I cannot wait to play it and am looking forward to getting home and playing for middlesex and seeing family and friends again. I think i will take a break from writing in you diary until next summer when my pre-season Middlesex training starts. Well a good day and cant wait till tommorow good night.

Wow Freddie is in good form with the ball with another 5 wicket haul. 3 wickets for me as well :) But chasing 342 is tough but we have a good batting lineup and we will try out best to win this one :). Nice presentation Freddie :)
