Hey Ravi,

I tried out the new Test Bowling Patch that u uploaded. The thing is, the CPU now plays a lot more agressive than usual ... just like the actual unpatched CPU batsmen. I was just wondering if u have not made the changes to rectify these problems in ur new patch.

So I tried something ... i used the exe in ur new patch with the rest of the files of the previous bowling patch. But this again made the game crash when the batsman edged one.

I have one question ... What would happen if I use the normal cricket2002.exe file with the rest of the config files in ur patch ?? Would that make a difference ??

Sorry if I'm troubling u too much ... but except for the game crashing thing, ur Test bowling patch is amazing and I want it to work smoothly if possible !!!

Thanx,
Kewldude
Hey Kewldude, did you try the latest one long enough. I can confirm Aussies scored 48/1 after around 18-20 overs when I tested it. One or two players might be a bit aggressive but the others should continue to defend quite regularly I thought. For any test match the way CPU plays will be a tad different in sessions although in the end the run rate should hover between 2.5 -3.0 (Also depends on how attacking you are with your field sets). All the tweaks for test cricket lie in config files and has nothing to do with the exe so using the original cricket2002.exe should not cause too much of an issue.

If you are happy with the original patch, run the test batting/bowling exe and quit the game after an over. Then go back in using original cricket2002.exe, it should not make any difference. The new leg flick to fine leg will be lost but should not be of much concern given this shot is not played one too many in tests anyway. Let me know if you need any more help on this.

Vineet,

Read your interview with Andrew and I have to say its comprehensive at the least. Well done mate, take a bow. I dont see much point in uploading the Test/ODI patch now knowing that the Cricket 2004 is round the corner. If I am able to fix those game freezing issues, will upload it and let you know for sure.

Thanks mate :)

Glad you liked it

True.

If I am able to fix those game freezing issues, will upload it and let you know for sure.

That'll be great, since from what I can see your gameplay patch is almost perfect except for this problem  Hope you can fix it soon.

Make sure you read the interview with Andrew_Wilson I'll be posting very soon about Cricket 2004. Made a second call to him and got some more info?
looking forward to reading it

Hey Ravi,

I tried out the new patch again for a lot more time and u were right. The CPU does play sensibly and not too agressively. I was able to contain the CPU to a run rate of below 2.

I couldnt get any edges as of yet ... i did get one which fell short and went between the keeper and 1st slip and the game DID NOT freeze. Although I still have to get a proper edge which is caught. Will let you know about it.

Also, its mooo! difficult to get a wicket dude. I play on hard level and although I have been bowling for only some time now, I dont think it should be this difficult. I happened to get just 2 edges in about 30 overs inspite of bowling good line and length. Any ideas ?? Maybe i should change the edges parameter in the config file.

U can get it from the Planetcricket Forums. In the 'Cricket 2002 Forums', there's a thread called 'Test Cricket Tweak'. U can get the patches at the end of the thread.

Bwt, What is a reasonable setting for the number of edges in a Test match ?? Can u give me the values for BatEdgeAverage and BatEdgeOrder.

Kewldude, there are more than one setting to alter to get a realistic result. There is also a copy of old config file bundled with the install file viz copy of u_hard.cfg which has the original settings. With the new edges file, the keeper and the slips will catch brilliantly at times; ofcourse you will need to place your best fielders in the slip to catch those edges. I am sure you will appreciate it when that happens. I had some time to play a test series some days ago when I felt I was able to bundle out the oppostion fairly easily playing as Australia particularly against the weaker sides hence I changed it to make it a bit hader to get wickets on good pitches. You can delete the u_hard.cfg file after having run the test cricket batting.exe and rename the copy of u_hard.cfg to u_hard.cfg to switch to the old config. You still can change it a fair bit to get the best out of the settings which I detail below :

This is the latest settings :

BatEdgeDifficulty 0.008999
BatEdgeStroke 0.099999
BatEdgeAverage 0.039999
BatEdgeOrder 0.007599
BatEdgeBias 0.008999

Alter it to the following to get the edges every now and then :

BatEdgeDifficulty 0.018999
BatEdgeStroke 0.109999
BatEdgeAverage 0.049999
BatEdgeOrder 0.005599
BatEdgeBias 0.006999

You might experience a weird result for a late cut shot as I noticed the late cut shot had been replace with the pull shot in the altered exe, I will fix this shortly and update the patch. If you need more help let me know or after having tested the above values if you want it to be packaged let me know. Also what type of pitch were you bowling on?

You can try the following tricks to deceive the CPU batsman:

There are three types of balls a fast or a medium pacer can bowl. One is the faster one, the other not so fast and the slower one. Make sure you use the not so fast one every now and then; it is tweaked to produce good seam movement both sides and will result in wickets every now and then.

You can also try a bit of Cricket 2002 reverse swing to beat the bat or get a wicket with a swing bowler by selecting to bowl an in swinger but moving the cursor inside the ball away. The same trick can be used with out swingers too. This can fairly regularly result in beating the bat or confusing the CPU batsman. You can reduce the runs scored by the CPU batsman in ODIs using this trick.

In ODIs the Medium pacers are a boon when you choose to bowl the not so fast one to pitch on good length and seam it away using the cursor inside the ball towards the slips; this will regularly beat the bat adding a bit of satisfaction bowling to CPU. The margin for error is fairly little when employing such tactics and can result in wides to start with. Once you master it you will enjoy bowling a bit more.

When you bowl a spinner don?t always try to spin the ball heaps. Keep mixing the deliveries and also reverse spin occasionally to deceive the batsman. At times choose the wrong one and still move the cursor inside the ball to the other end; this also will result in occasional wickets.
I think I could go on to write a huge essay on how to bowl with my patch but surely you will figure out most if you toil in a game or two.

Hey great info Ravi ... actually i did manage to get 3 wickets yday with Harbhajan Singh as the bowler. 3 wickets in a space of 4 overs ... not too bad. 2 catches to 1st slip and one to 2nd slip. There is some strange satisfaction in getting wickets that way man !!!

I'll try the different settings u gave above and let u know the results.

Thanks
Kewldude
