01/01/07 - New England: WWE Chairman Vince McMahon today released a statement saying that 2006 had been the worst year in the history of WWE in terms of profit and it terms of ratings for TV shows and Pay-Per-Views. After stating this, he vowed to turn it around. He has put changes to carry this out into immediate effect.

The most significant of these changes being the firing of a large number of the booking staff, with McMahon blaming "old thinking" for a lot of the companies problems. He went on to announce that he had hired 2 unknown, but talented bookers from smaller promotions as the head bookers. The 2 men, Chez Spin and Connor Rawlings both booked for small federations before coming to WWE.

The second significant change announced was the end of WWE's ECW brand. The third brand had limited success and McMahon said that WWE needed to concentrate on making their flagship brands stronger before making ventures such as ECW. The former ECW stars will be staying on the WWE roster as part of either Smackdown! or Raw.

The final big change to WWE announced was the way in which the 2 brands would be made more balanced. All current workers on the roster who are not at WWE development camps at Ohio Valley or Deep South wrestling will be re-drafted to Smackdown! or Raw by the 2 new bookers. Chez Spin will take Smackdown!, drafting for it and becoming the new on-screen General Manager as well. Connor Rawlings will be in charge of Raw. This draft will take place in the immediate future according to WWE officials.

All these changes are taking place, but can they turn WWE around?

At WWE Headquarters the new Head Bookers and General Managers, Connor Rawlings and Chez Spin conducted the draft of every wrestler on the roster. Below is the roster for each of the brands. As a result of the draft, all the titles have been vacated by champions and left at their original brand. Vince McMahon has given both GMs permission to speak to wrestlers and has allowed them to sign up to 3 new wrestlers for their respective brands. The next WWE show is on Friday with Smackdown!. WWE.com has started a poll asking fans which brand they think is better (see top of page to vote!)

1st January 2006, New York - The World's Top 100 Wrestlers list has today been published by grapplefanatics.net. The top 10 are:

1. Kurt Angle (TNA)
2. Chris Jericho (-)
3. Chris Benoit (WWE Raw)
4. Christian Cage (TNA)
5. Shawn Michaels (WWE Raw)
6. Rey Mysterio (WWE Smackdown!)
7. CM Punk (WWE Smackdown!)
8. Rob Van Dam (WWE Raw)
9. Edge (WWE Smackdown!)
10. AJ Styles (TNA/ROH/BOH)

WWE stars have not done well, here are the positions of some of the top wrestlers in WWE.

12. Triple H
18. Randy Orton
43. King Booker
81. The Undertaker
88. John Cena

And Batista was not on the Top 100 at all!

This list suggests that the Raw and Smackdown! brands are balanced evenly considering the number at placement of their stars.

OK, cool. Here the ratings will matter big time and I reckon that Raw will trounce smackdown with the stars they have.

I didn't think you'd be so modest.

I think the best two ways to check which is the better brand is to re-do the poll every two months and see who supports who.

That's what we're going to do, I think.

Also, the GMs have got to take advantage of their 3 signings which they're allowed.

What are you on about??? :p

Really, being totally honest, I thought Smackdown had a very slightly better roster after my draft picks. You have to remember that people like Batista and Cena are awful on the game!

And Conor is right, our 3 signings each should come into play. Expect some big names!

I mean the ratings you get in the game (sorry, I had just woken up, that post actually made no sense).

Smackdown has Ric Flair and Undertaker with a combined age of 98 as their main eventers while Raw has Triple H and Shawn Michaels who are quite good on the game. But remember, Triple H has creative control :D
