Also 1997 Waqar was probably the best CC season from a seamer ever. He may not have had the average of Donald but he had peak Dougie Brown with him. Glamorgan's only other decent seamer was an aging Steve Watkin and they played on some absolute roads, which you could never accuse of Edgbaston. (James and Morris combined for 11 centuries opening up combined). Waqar won the title by himself almost, not only because of his ability to bowl on roads but also the fact it forced teams to attack Watkin/Croft/Thomas at the other end in order to get past FO targets.

Yep, it was a remarkable season for Waqar and one that solidified as legendary a status for him as Wasim in Lancashire.

It's weird but Waqar was a genius fast bowler himself but is often overshadowed by Wasim to the extent that many forget Waqar is a GOAT type cricketer.

Just saw a video of Shane Warne bowling Basit Ali off the last ball of the day's play in a test.

Can't help but think that Benaud in the comm box was such a bore-no excitement whatsoever, just drab. Perhaps one of the over hyped commentators ever. Checked a few more videos and found that Benaud didn't seem to have many tone changes in the course of the game. Very boring.

Bill Lawry was a much better commentator than Benaud anyday.

I gotta defend Benaud here...cricket wasnt all "bantz" and "ladz" in the commentary box. Test cricket in particular used to be prestige. Benaud made you feel like it was a privilege to simply observe.

I disagree. Commentary should make you feel as if you are there in the stadium. The pitch, the tone and everything else should be in sync with the happenings. You certainly don't want anyone simply muttering stuff.

Benaud might have earned the name ' Voice of Cricket', but was quite poor. There's of course a huge difference between being unnecessarily cheesy like Bhogle and a few, but Benaud was really drab. In contrast, fellow Channel 9 commentators were excellent. Consider Tony Greig- absolutely brilliant! Pity, he passed away too soon!

If this guy is actually serious and thinks winning a MOM award means you are a top player...boy oh boy.

But just because he seems serious I'll post a bit about Emperor Babar:

The Emperor has scored 50 or more in tests in 31 of the 51 games he has played so far, winning or drawing 17 of those. In such games he averages a stunning 126.85.

One such performance was 127* not out v NZ, winning the game...but Yasir Shah went ahead and took 14 wickets.
In the very next test he played, he scored another century scoring at about 80...but the MOM was awarded to the other centurion, Abid Ali.
He would score two more centuries in back to back tests, winning both but also another MOM for Abid and a first for Naseem Shah.
When he scored against the Windies guess what...he lost out the MOM award to the Man of the Series Shaheen Afridi.

It's not that The Emperor hasn't performed well enough, or his mammoth 196 is an anomaly...it's just that choosing the MOM is a subjective task.

So it should have been 4 in 50 tests then.

Cool.

Bobsy the Emperor.

On a serious note winning 5 tests motm is a good achievement.

But for as the thread title says its an unpopular opinion.

I will still stuck to that opinion.

I don’t know if Babar’s really overrated or underrated, a mid 40s averaging batter with the ceiling to get it up to fifty sounds right for him.

Hardik Pandya is a talented player who's arrogance & ego has gotten into his head. This will be the reason of his downfall one day.

Unpopular Opinion Im not for IPL teams buying inexperienced current-hype players like Spencer and Thushara when much better bowlers go unsold

Next year’s WC has to be his moment especially if he leads the side. If he fails there I can only imagine his career being spoken of as a big what if in the future.
