You can't say Pollard completely attacks. At deep crisis times he plays patiently before hitting much. And also he is poor at the big bowlers.

Well I suppose he does block a few, but that's it - a few. And it seems like when he does block them, he's only doing it to get his eye in ie. he'll go hard as soon as he's ready. I can count on one hand the number of innings he's played that have lasted more than 30-50 balls, so saying he's patient seems wrong. If he's not impatient then he must be just incompetent.

I like Karan's list thus far :thumbs Even if he has snuck is some retired players...

C'mon man! Most attacking players change gears according to the situation. Take the mighty Gayle, he too plays dot balls when WI loses wickets in quick succession.

The thing is these guys are naturally aggressive and highly destructive for the opposition.

Wrong! Most Attacking players usually less often or never changes thier gears. Examples : Sehwag, Afridi, Sanath etc etc.
Gayle in most cases never change his gear unless thier is rain of wickets from the other end. Prime example was in WC Quaterfinal, had he changed his gears after hitting couple of smashing boundaries to Gul, Westindies might be in different positions but you can not blame Gayle for that becuase it's his nature and people like him becuase of this "X" factor.

You can't be a great player - batsman or bowler - if you can't change gears ie. slow down if the situation demands it. If you can take someone who I regard as a great player, and prove to me that they could not bat/bowl more defensively, I will happily cross them off my list. I'm not saying it will ever happen, I'm just saying 'if'.

Please read the title of thread. Its about most attacking player not the greatest player.

Being an attacking player does not makes you a great player but a great player usually have some control aggression.

The top 10 of anything have to be the best players. If they're attacking but don't really deserve to be at international level, you can put them in your list if you like, but I won't.

Yeah SY. The nature of attacking batsmen rarely changes. Pollard goes for the big ones very late and cannot be considered as a completely attacking class, as I have often watched him play defensively.

1. Gayle
2. Barath
3. Russell
4. Kirk Edwards
5. Pollard
6. Sehwag
7. Harbhajan
8. Afridi
9. Johnson
10. Prior

Well, I was actually thinking of a full team of 11 attacking players, who could change the game from any given situation by aggression and intent, and also the fact that there should be variation in the team as a 11 member squad cannot be 1 dimensional,
In my 11 member list,
there are 3 quick bowlers with completely different styles and approach in Flintoff, Johnson and Steyn. There are two good off spinners in Yusuf and Gayle, one extremely good legspinner in Shahid Afridi, and an experienced left arm spinner in Sanath Jayasuriya.

And in batting, Sehwag and Richards are opening because of their consistency and aggression at the top order,
followed by Chris Gayle, Yusuf Pathan and Shahid Afridi who are unpredictable and extremely attacking, just 1 guy clicking out of these 3 means the game is over.

Jayasuriya and Gilchrist are in the lower order, because if the wickets fell very early(as they are all very attacking), they can rebuild the innings as they have a lot of experience to play at the top order, and not just that, there is Pollard, Flintoff and Johnson to follow who are again very aggressive and unpredictable. So, its like 2 innings in 1 for the opposition bowlers, if they get rid of the first 5 batsmen, they will have to go through the whole process again before they breath a sigh of relief.
