SCOTLAND STUN SOUTH AFRICA!
The minnows of Scotland have beaten South Africa in an amazing run chase at Galle today in Group A of the 2011 World Cup!
The Scots started in an attacking mood, needing 239 to win. The opening over of the innings was bowled by Ugasen Govender and opener Jim Oxton went postal on him, scoring four consecutive fours, and 19 runs were scored on that over. Oxton went soon after, for 19 off 9 balls. Fellow opener Fraser Watts was preparing in his mind to be the anchor man of the innings, so he nudged and nurdled, while at the other end a stream of batsmen went at almost a run a ball - Watson 36 off 39, Poonia 16 off 16, McCallum 8 off 18. However, this ended as Ross Lyons came to the crease with the score at 140 for 3.
Ryan Watson leaves the crease, bowled by Zondeki.
Lyons took the attack to South Africa, and managed to guide Scotland home, shocking the South African seamers with his aggression, as he scored his first List-A and ODI half-century, and as he brought the team home with a crashing boundary of Jacques Kallis, he'd managed to score 74 off 70 balls and leave South Africa dangling over the edge of the cliff, and Scotland with a real chance of qualifying.
