Briggsey, is it just me or are you using the Slazenger v100 that Burmas Finest made for me. Just out of interest.

Bad luck for Briggs there but hopefully he will bowl well.

Lewis And Batty Seal Victory
At The Queens Park Oval

3 wickets apiece from Jon Lewis and Gareth Batty sealed an innings victory for England A in their first and only warm up game against Trinidad. Despite a good start from the openers, Trinidad's middle order failed to live up to expectations with Ricardo Powell and Dwayne Bravo the only players to score anything of note, but it was the well organized and disciplined bowling from the England bowlers which won through. Young Yorkshire all rounder Shaun Briggs got the ball rolling when he dismiseed Sherwin Ganga who was caught pluim infront, but the big wicket, and the one that would have pleased Gareth Batty the most, was that of Brian Lara who was clean bowled by the England A captain, just when he was starting to look dangerous. After being punished on this very ground by Lara a couple of years ago, Batty got some measure of revenge as he got one to spin away from Lara who was completely deceived. Once Lara went the wickets tumbled and Jon Lewis wrapped things up, taking the final 3 wickets to complete an innings and 51 run victory for England A.

From Briggs View
Briggs will have been much pleased with his efforts in the second innings of the Trinidad batting, taking 2 wickets from the 21 overs he bowled. Batty decided that Briggs was to be the most used bowler, bowling more overs than any other bowler in the team, and it proved to work as Briggs troubled the Trinidad batsmen throughout whilst keeping things tight at the same time. The two wickets for Briggs came in the form of both Ganga's in the Trinidad team, first Sherwin, who was caught plum infront of the stumps, then next to go was Daren who gloved one to Sajid Mahmood at slip. Briggs did have other appeals go against him, but all in all it would seem Briggs has redeemed himself after his first innings efforts.

Shaun Briggs 21-3-50-2

1st Spell
1st Over: Briggs starts up with a maiden over
2nd Over: Maraj is uneased as Briggs tests him with some bouncers, one of which strikes Maraj straight on the helmet
3rd Over: Single from the over
4th Over: Another run picked up from the over
5th Over: Briggs goes up for a huge LBW appeal against Ganga but the ball seems to be going over the top and is turned down by the umpire
6th Over: WICKET! Briggs finally gets his man as Sherwin Ganga misjudges one and is caught plum LBW. Two balls later, Maraj plays and misses at one.
7th Over: Maraj hits Briggs away for 4 through the covers
End Of Spell 7-1-11-1

2nd Spell
8th Over: A perfect comeback is ruined when Ganga edges through slip, much to the anoyance of Briggs
9th Over: Powell smashes Briggs down the ground for 4
10th Over: Single from the over
11th Over: Powell takes the attack to Briggs and in some style, first hitting him through covers and off his pads for 4 and then smashing a huge 6 down the ground
12th Over: WICKET! Perfect reply from Briggs who claims the wicket of Daren Ganga, who gloves one straight to slip
13th Over: Brilliant over from Briggs who first gets Bravo to edge one just short of slip and then has a huge LBW appeal agains Chan turned down
14th Over: Chan replies well from Briggs last over by hitting him down the ground for 6
End Of Spell 7-0-31-1

3rd Spell
15th Over: Another huge shout from Briggs for a caught behind off Dillion is turned down
16th Over: Briggs bowls a maiden
17th Over: Single from the over
18th Over: Dillion frustrates Briggs more by edging through slip
19th Over: Single from the over
20th Over: Briggs bowls another maiden
21st Over: Clearly tired from his efforts, Briggs bowls 3 no balls to bring his final spell of bowling to an end

Digicel A Team Series Tour Match
Queens Park Oval

England A 372/6
Beat
Trinidad 109 & 212
By An Innings And 51 Runs

Man Of The Match
Alastair Cook
cook1vu.jpg

After a good game, England A now move on to the more serious business and the test series against West Indies A. With the announcement of the West Indies squad expected very soon, the England A boys wont have much time to prepare to play against the players, so it will be important they are on top of their game when the first test comes.

Shaun Briggs will obviously look to impress in training and in the nets in the coming week to cement his place in the England A line up, especially with players waiting to take his place should he slip up.

Cricinfo also update their stats on Shaun Briggs after the Trinidad game was completed.
