Young Yorkshire leg-spinner Adil Rashid has been named in a 26-man England Performance squad for this summer.

England Performance Squad: Ambrose (Warwicks), Anderson (Lancs), Bell (Warwicks), Bopara (Essex), Broad (Notts), Carberry (Hants), Collingwood (Durham), Cook (Essex), Flintoff (Lancs), Harmison (Durham), Hoggard (Yorks), Key (Kent), Mascarenhas (Hants), Mustard (Durham), Panesar (Northants), Pietersen (Hants), Prior (Sussex), Rashid (Yorks), Shah (Middx), Strauss (Middx), Sidebottom (Notts), Swann (Notts), Tredwell (Kent), Tremlett (Hants), Vaughan (Yorks), Wright (Sussex).

Rashid included means they'll be looking at him for the Indian tour in the winter as a third spinner, providing he has a good season. Tredwell will also get an opportunity to prove his worth.

Rob Key is back in favor of the selectors as well due to his success with Kent and maybe needed back up in the batting front. Michael Carberry is also there after his success with the England Lions and I'm interested what England could do with him.

Matt Prior is a surpise to me since there are 2 keepers already there and really he needs to work on his glove work with Sussex if he wants to get back into the England side.

I'd rather have James Foster or Steve Davies in the squad over Prior. Denly, Plunkett and Onions should be in the squad aswell.

Hmm I feel this is a different squad. I think these are the players who the selectors are thinking about playing in the near future. I agree with you though that Foster or Davies should be ahead of Prior.

lol..I will go for Swann prior to Rashid.
Though Squad seems to me good.

Rashid > Swann. Bring Rashid in now, it's quite clear he has a guge future ahead of himself. He can turn the ball and is a very capable batter. Taking a huge risk in saying he could be our next Number 6 all round.

If we put Rashid in now it will be stupidly stupid. Remember Chris Schofield people. Remember Chris Schofield.

He's obviously got potential but he's shoudn't be picked on potential.

If he's plays in and OD game they are stupid after he's had only 7 games, will be another Monty situation. His batting average is impressive though. He's not done enough to earn a place in the squad though, looking through the bowling averages last year he was not in the top page and there was a few spinners ahead of him ike Tredwell, Batty, Swann, Monty etc. Was in the top page for batting though. He averaged 42 with the ball and if they are picking him for his bowling thats not good enough.

first Usman Afzaal then Adil Usman Rashid..

ohh.. what next? Usman G? :p

He's not ready. The fact that we're creaming over someone just because he's a half competent leggie is a joke. Look at his records for christ sake. Unless he has a season that drastically brings his average down he shouldn't be near the side.

He has potential yes, but he's not good enough at this very moment.

I'm sure the selectors will look at him this season and then assess him afterwards. If he has a good season then he should be given the chance but if not then we'll have to wait. I would still rate him above Tredwell at the moment though.

We will need three spinners in India since the pitches will probably be slow turners, in which Kumble and Harbhajan will bowl on.

We'll need either Rashid or Tredwell to come through this season to fill the third spot.

Plus I don't think that the necessarily will happen to Rashid like it did Schofield looking at the fact that Schofield has always had a flawed action, he gets no turn on the ball because of it and he had no real variation in pace or delivery.

If Rashid still out performs Tredwell this season, we'll have to take the risk and pick him for the tour since we need someone as back up in case either Panesar or Swann gets injured.

Rashid isn't ready for international cricket, I saw him at Lord's and okay it's Lord's, but he didn't look anything special. At this moment in time, Swann is a better cricketer. Personally, I wouldn't play Rashid until after next seasons Ashes. If you want to play him, use a dead rubber, maybe the 3rd test vs New Zealand?
