Do you not feel however that it came across so badly to the more hardcore or specific cricket fan in it's permanence and with it's huge cone, that it's caused a lot of negativity to the idea which has spun off into where we are now?
Yes absolutely. But I think there's room for both. I don't know what the split of fans were (no way of knowing) between casual and hardcore, but the fact that the Wii was comfortably the best selling version (like double any other platform) suggests that it was probably a majority. Difficult to know compared to DBC because of the vastly different marketing/licensing options, the market conditions of the industry in general and the timing of release how they would compare.
You also have to remember that it is much easier to get the hardcore fans to accept dumbed-down controls than it is to get the casual fans to understand hardcore ones.
