Kevin Pitersen is a quality player. He should have been included in Test team rather than Ian Bell perhaps. And where is Mark Butcher?? Is he out of form or injured or sumthin??

But not surprising considering he averages only 27 in List A cricket.

Well they stick with Solanki whose list A average is 29.
Butcher should have been given his chance in the one day international arena 3-4 years ago. His 173 (off only 227 balls) v Aussies at Headingley in 2001 (albeit in a Test), full of trademark elegant cuts/drives through point and covers was the innings which should have given him that chance.

I think with 20-20 format, england will find a lot of good slash-boom-bang one day players. I agree that Butcher warrants a place in ODI side rather than Solanki.

I'm not saying now, I think Butch should have had his chance over the last few years, but I'm afraid his opportunity has passed now.

Hmm.. yeah you are right. Pietersen can snatch Butcher's Test position too now. What do you think?

I reckon Pietersen and Bell may be in competition for the same place. But with Thorpe effectively ending his Test career after this summer, the pressure's on him to perform throughout the Ashes series or his place may be up for grabs before the series ends.

I doubt they'll do that for someone who has contributed to England so greatly, over the past. Unless they randomly have a sniff at the ashes, for example being 1-1 after 3/4 games. Then they may drop him.
