David Gower Hello and welcome to the fourth day of this first npower test coming to you from Old Trafford and England are looking to wrap up victory by taking the remaining West Indies wicket and then making them follow on. The players are out in the middle so we are ready and in the commentary box for us are Sir Ian Botham and Michael Holding.

Sir Ian Botham: Thanks David and we are all ready for a fine day of test match cricket. I am along side Mikey and the England bowlers will look to finish this off quickly so they can have a go at the Windies openers when they are forced to follow on.

Michael Holding: Well the West Indies have it all to do and they will look to prove that they have what it takes and prove many people wrong including myself in this test match.

10 overs pass and the West Indies are frustrating the England bowlers. They score 7 runs and move the score to 147. Panesar is brought into the attack and he gets a big ovation before bowling his first over. His first ball is a dot ball and then he runs in again to Mervyn Dillon.

Sir Ian Botham: Here is Monty then. Got him that is it teh resilience ends there. Dillon just prodding at it and it chips up to Ian Bell at forward short leg. Great work by England and the West Indies are all out for 147. The last man to go is Mervyn for 3 off of 35 balls.

Michael Holding: Right let's have a look at the West Indies scorecard then. Only three of the batsman got starts and they managed to give their wickets away. The top scorer was Ramnaresh Sarwan followed by Brian Lara and then Chris Gayle. No-one else made a contribution worth noting and this was why the England bowlers dominated. In the follow on attempt the West Indies must play a lot better.

18215405678.jpg

Sir Ian Botham: As for the England bowlers they all bowled well and economically. Simon Jones picked up a wicket on his return and Matthew Hoggard did well despite not getting a wicket. The two fast bowlers, Flintoff and Harmison got a couple each but the star of the show as far as England were concerned was the more popular every day Monty Panesar who got four wickets and deserved a five wicket haul. England will be looking for a repeat in the follow on to wrap up the victory.

18215405337.jpg

Michael Holding: To summaraise then the match so far, England posted 369 all out in their innings with Ian Bell making 110 and Kevin Pietersen scoring 81. Collingwood and Flintoff also got scores in the thirties. Pedro Collins picked up three expensive wickets. In reply West Indies made 147 all out with the top scorer being Sarwan who made 39. The best bowler for England was without doubt, Monty Panesar.

Sir Ian Botham: Join us after the break when England will be ready to bowl out the West Indies again and seal this match. Make sure you join us!

England vs. West Indies: 1st Test, Day Four, Morning Session LIVE!

Just asking can someone tell me how to change the poll because i haven't got a clue. Below is the thirteen overs of the West Indies 2nd Innigns before the lunch interval. Also the player batting stats have been updated from the first innings.

--------------------------------------------------

17306380850.jpg

David Gower: Hello and welcome back to Old Trafford where the West Indies are getting ready to follow on after their dismal showing with the bat first time around. They remain 222 runs behind England's first innings score of 369. To take you through the tricky period the West Indies have got to face before lunch are Sir Ian Botham and Michael Holding.

Sir Ian Botham: Thanks once again David and to face the new ball will be the West Indian openers who need to see off this period of play if they are to have any chance of successfully holding off England in this test match. To open for the Windies will be Chris Gayle at the non-strikers end and Wavell Hinds who will be on strike from the beginning and will face a fast bowler called Steve Harmison with his tail up.

18313000373.jpg

Michael Holding: Here we go then, Steve Harmison running in at full speed and he will try and make an early breakthrough for the English team. Running in then and Hinds is struck on the pad. Massive appeal from the England team and the umpire stands firm and does not raise the finger. Not out much to the annoyance of the home crowd.

6 overs pass and the West Indies are just blocking. It is 1/0 and Chris Gayle is facing the fifth delivery from Matthew Hoggard.

Sir Ian Botham: Hoggard running in then to Gayle on strike and he has bowled him! The stumps fly everywhere and Gayle has been comprehensively bowled. Through the gate swinging back in going for a drive and Gayle is gone. The West Indies are not in a good position here, Gayle goes for a duck and the West Indies are 1/1.

18313000428.jpg

Michael Holding: The new batsman for the West Indies is Brain Lara the skipper and the team sure need a massive score from him because right now England are jubilant and look on course to win this test match comfortably. Can Lara produce?

1831300019.jpg

Sir Ian Botham: Right, Harmison to bowl to Hinds in the 9th over. That will be four a brilliant cover drive which races away to teh fence and that is the sort of cricket the Windies are going to need if they are going to survive against this England team who are looking ruthless and confident. They are showing great form in this test match so far.

The final four overs before lunch produce 12 runs and boost the West Indies score at lunch on day four to 18/1. England are very much on top.

Michael Holding: At lunch the West Indies are 18/1 and they have lost the wicket of Chris Gayle who was comprehensively bowled by Matthew Hoggard for a duck. Brian Lara must play an innings of a lifetime and Wavell Hinds must score big as well if the West Indies are going to save this game.

18313000586.jpg

Sir Ian Botham: As for the England bowlers Matthew Hoggard and Steve Harmison are the only bowlers that have been used and they have done a very good job with the new cherry. Hoggard has got the wicket but Harmison has looked the more dangerous. Join us after the break for the lunch interval when we will be looking at a classic match that took place at Old Trafford.

England vs. West Indies: 1st Test, Day Four, Afternoon Session LIVE!

17306380850.jpg

David Gower: Hello everyone and welcome back to Old Trafford for the afternoon session of play where England will try to take a lot of wickets and get close to finishing this match. In the commentary box are to England captains Michael Atherton and Nasser Hussain.

Nasser Hussain: This is all set to be a cracking session of play and at the crease for the West Indies are Wavell Hinds and Brian Lara the captain for the West Indies. If they are going to have a chance in this match you feel that he has to bat well and score big. Weather he can do that or not however is another question all together.

Michael Atherton: Monty Panesar will bowl the first ball after lunch to Brian Lara. Monty in then and that is a great shot. Fine glance off his pads and that will race down to the fence, not the start England would have been hoping for after lunch.

Harmison bowls the next over and concedes two runs. Panesar then bowls to Lara again.

Nasser Hussain: Monty Panesar to continue to bowl to Brian Lara then and that is wide and elegantly stroked through the covers for a brilliantly timed four. Lara is looking dangerous here and England need to get rid of him fast before he gets set because if he stays around teh Windies have a chance.

Harmison concedes 3 runs in his next over while Panesar concedes another two boundaries in his next two overs. Simon Jones is into the attack and leaks eight runs in his first two overs. Panesar bowls a maiden and is set to bowl to Lara with the score 48/1.

Michael Atherton: Here we go. Panesar to Lara goes for the big shot but it has gone straight up in the air and it is going to be caught by the safe hands of Paul Collingwood at mid off and that could spell major trouble for the West Indies. Brian Lara is gone after scoreing 24.

18915542938.jpg

Nasser Hussain: The new batsman is Shivnarine Chanderpaul and he has to stand tall and be resilient if he is to have any chance of stopping these England bowlers with their tails up.

18915542968.jpg

Michael Atherton: Simon Jones to bowl to Wavell Hinds then. Running in and he has gone! A slower ball and Hinds edges it straight to Matt Prior behind the stumps. The West Indies are in major trouble now and Hinds goes after a well built innings of 24 but he needed to get more for the West Indies.

18915552821.jpg

Nasser Hussain: The West Indies are now 52/3 and looking very rocky indeed. Ramnaresh Sarwan is the new man and he has to have another good day with the bat. He was the main man for the West Indies in the first innings and he definitely needs to be the best in the second innings if the West Indies are to have any chance.

18915542975.jpg

The next over passes and it is a maiden bowled by Monty Panesar. Simon Jones continues from the opposite end.

Michael Atherton: Chanderpaul on strike now and Simon Jones runs in and that is a powerful square cut which races away to the boundary. You just cannot afford to bowl short and wide to any batsman at this level because you get punished.

Nasser Hussain: Panesar to continue and to bowl to Sarwan. They go for a quick single and it is picked by Ian Bell. Bell throws at the stumps and hits. Third umpire will be needed here, the man in question is Chanderpaul. The umpire's decision is out and the crowd go mad. Chanderpaul goes after being run out for just six and the West Indies are 59/4. This is not looking good at all.

18915542993.jpg

Michael Atherton: The new man for the West Indies is Marlon Samuels who needs some runs because some want Sylvester Joseph to play instead of him. He needs to make a few and prove his capabilities even it if for no reason because this match is now almost over.

18915542945.jpg

Nasser Hussain: Simon Jones to continue running in and that will be a boundary. Brilliantly timed from Sarwan. Cover drive which races through to the fence. Sarwan is the only West Indies batsman that has looked in any sort of form with the bat.

Panesar bowls a maiden and Michael Vaughan brings in Freddie Flintoff into the attack. He is about to bowl Sarwan.

Michael Atherton: Flintoff has bowled three dot balls so far then and he runs in once more. On his legs and Sarwan plays a lovely leg glance for four. Good shot there and Flintoff doesn't look happy and he shouldn't. That was a poor delivery for a man of his talents.

A further nine overs pass with the West Indies able to move their score on to 85/4. Sarwan and Samuels are nearing a fifty partnership.

Nasser Hussain: Michael Vaughan brings himself into the attack then to gove Monty a rest and to try and break this partnership. Vaughan to bowl to Samuels and that is a wonderful shot. Chipped delicately over the infield for a boundary. He moves onto nine now. Vaughan looks angry. Vaughan running in again and he bowls, massive lbw appeal and given! Straight delivery and it was plum. Marlon Samuels misjudges it and the West Indies lose another wicket just before tea. They are now 89/5.

18915542910.jpg

Michael Atherton: Carlton Baugh is another man under pressure and he needs a few runs but can he deliver? The West Indies are battling but England are on top in a big way.

19114000446.jpg

Nasser Hussain: The last over before tea is to be bowled by Monty Panesar and Sarwan is on strike. Blocks the first two and then drives and gets it uppish over the covers for a much needed boundary. The West Indies are 93/5 on tea of day four.

Michael Atherton: If we look at the West Indies scorecard we can see that there really hasn't been much resistance at all and it is a very similar story to the first innings. Lara and Hinds got starts but didn't go on, Chanderpaul, Gayle and Samuels have gone before reaching double figures and the star for the Windies has again been Ramnaresh Sarwan who is 24 not out and playing beautifully. At lunch the Windies are 93/5.

18915542927.jpg

Nasser Hussain: Let's take a look at the England bowling and again they have bowled consistently good lines and lengths with 4 out of the six bowlers picking up a single wicket each. Harmsion, Hoggard and Panesar have been economical while Jones and Flintoff were a little expensive and Vaughan made a crucial breakthrough just before tea. Overall here at Old Trafford England are the team on top and will try to end this match after tea. Make sure you join us after this break.
