England vs. West Indies: 1st Test, Day Four, Morning Session LIVE!
David Gower Hello and welcome to the fourth day of this first npower test coming to you from Old Trafford and England are looking to wrap up victory by taking the remaining West Indies wicket and then making them follow on. The players are out in the middle so we are ready and in the commentary box for us are Sir Ian Botham and Michael Holding.
Sir Ian Botham: Thanks David and we are all ready for a fine day of test match cricket. I am along side Mikey and the England bowlers will look to finish this off quickly so they can have a go at the Windies openers when they are forced to follow on.
Michael Holding: Well the West Indies have it all to do and they will look to prove that they have what it takes and prove many people wrong including myself in this test match.
10 overs pass and the West Indies are frustrating the England bowlers. They score 7 runs and move the score to 147. Panesar is brought into the attack and he gets a big ovation before bowling his first over. His first ball is a dot ball and then he runs in again to Mervyn Dillon.
Sir Ian Botham: Here is Monty then. Got him that is it teh resilience ends there. Dillon just prodding at it and it chips up to Ian Bell at forward short leg. Great work by England and the West Indies are all out for 147. The last man to go is Mervyn for 3 off of 35 balls.
Michael Holding: Right let's have a look at the West Indies scorecard then. Only three of the batsman got starts and they managed to give their wickets away. The top scorer was Ramnaresh Sarwan followed by Brian Lara and then Chris Gayle. No-one else made a contribution worth noting and this was why the England bowlers dominated. In the follow on attempt the West Indies must play a lot better.
Sir Ian Botham: As for the England bowlers they all bowled well and economically. Simon Jones picked up a wicket on his return and Matthew Hoggard did well despite not getting a wicket. The two fast bowlers, Flintoff and Harmison got a couple each but the star of the show as far as England were concerned was the more popular every day Monty Panesar who got four wickets and deserved a five wicket haul. England will be looking for a repeat in the follow on to wrap up the victory.
Michael Holding: To summaraise then the match so far, England posted 369 all out in their innings with Ian Bell making 110 and Kevin Pietersen scoring 81. Collingwood and Flintoff also got scores in the thirties. Pedro Collins picked up three expensive wickets. In reply West Indies made 147 all out with the top scorer being Sarwan who made 39. The best bowler for England was without doubt, Monty Panesar.
Sir Ian Botham: Join us after the break when England will be ready to bowl out the West Indies again and seal this match. Make sure you join us!
