Ponting is taking another match off and Bracken has pulled out due to personal reasons.

They should of brought in Dizzy for cover ;p Instead they have stuck with Dorey.

Oh and they kept Simon "I can't go on and make big scores and am absolutly dead boring to watch" Katich :< and Brad "this isn't a test match?" Hodge.

Australian squad Adam Gilchrist (capt, wk), Michael Hussey, Stuart Clark, Michael Clarke, Brett Dorey, Brad Hodge, Brad Hogg, James Hopes, Simon Katich, Brett Lee, Damien Martyn, Glenn McGrath, Andrew Symonds.

I wonder if Hussey will win the AB Medal. Ponting should get it in my opinion, but it wouldn;t surprise me if Hussey ended up getting it. All this recent Hussey fever, been on the block 5 minutes and already has one.

Well that's what happened with Clarke so early on and this year he'll walk into the Crown Palladium as the 'defending champion' who's been dropped from the test team. Anyway Hussey definitely won't win the Border Medal, but is hot favourite for the ODI one. Ponting should take home the Border Medal or atleast the test honours.
It's pathetic to see Dorey back in the side with other better and more promising bowlers waiting (Gillespie, Tait, Bollinger) for selection. With keeping Katich they are just sending out an alert to Jaques that all he needs to do is fail in his next few innings and he'll get a call up. Hodge's selection is no plus either, but it's not a huge surprise with the team they're going with based on recent decisions.

Yep as both andrew and James said above I was mentioning that Jaques has a UK passport due to his mother being English. Symonds also could have possibly played for England and Stuart Law I think is currently in England and seeking an English passport.
There is no such think as an English passport, it's a UK passport.

Stuart Law already has a UK passport, and has been eligible to play for England since last year.

Ooops my mistake :p meant to say UK passport.

I agree Dorey is pathetic. He was a real surprise selection and many rated him quite highly because of his accuracy and height. Yes he has had a decent year in Pura Cup cricket but he has mainly suceeded at the WACA, where it suits the quicker bowlers

I was one of those guys that thought those qualities from Dorey would make him a hit. You says he has his success at the WACA, well guess where we are playing next ;) If he is picked and can't do well there he should next play international cricket again.

Also at irottev - Simon "this isn't a test match?" Katich applies too :D

Heh, well to his credit he didn't need to be too aggressive and they ended up getting home in the end reasonably comfortably.

I can't believe you havn't had Tait back. He looked really really good in England.

I also noticed a quote from Lehman that the selectors should select Cosgrove, he feels he should go to the world cup. Interesting. I would like to see him play. Australia should definatly be playing Jacques, in preparation for the World Cup AND because in his first innings he already surpassed Katiches high score. He just seems a much more capable ODI batsman.

no he hasnt, lots of his great figures come from outside the WACA eg 7/77 at the gabba i think, and i think any new bowler coming in to bowl to jayasuria on fire wouyldnt find it easy..

7/77? In an ODI? Thats a lot of wickets but its too expensive. If its 4 day figures then that is good, mabee hes more suited to tests.

Tait is just coming back from injury thus he hasn't been picked. Same with Watson.
Cosgrove has an excellent strike rate in the ING cup just below Jaques. Hes a bloke that will score most of his runs from boundaries which could prove very entertaining.

Thats Pura, Dorey doesn't even have 7 wickets in the ING cup this year. I don't know why he would be suited to just tests matches with the form he has been in Pura. I would give him a few more games as 2 games 1 as mentioned against a fired up Jayasuria isn't a great guide.

I doubt we'll be seeing many quick singles from the big man

I also doubt Cosgrove's capabilities to run quick singles often especially with Clarke or Hussey at the other end. Maybe he can call a runner like Rantatunga :D

Well Dorey does possibly deserve another chance as it's not easy for anyone bowling against a firing Jayasuriya, especially a player with one cap behind him. And the Australian team regular's head's will be spinning if just about every half-decent domestic bowler comes in and goes out with 1 or 2 caps ;) Maybe persist with him to see how he capitalizes on his gifted opportunity. Watson shouldn't be back too soon, but Tait is bouncing back very impressively after his injury and is likely to be on the plane to South Africa. Either Hodge or Martyn would have to go to accomodate for Cosgrove in the near future: most likely to be Hodge.

OMG!!! Katich played a solid innings last night and still people are calling for his to be dropped! What exactly is the point of having to slashers opening the batting when we can have one very effective one, and another batsmen to work the singles, hit the od boundary, and make sure hes solid from his end? if jaques and Gilly open our innings, we have a higher chance of a collapse. leave the poor bloke alone. he does his job, give him time. Ponting only scored 3 tons in his first 23 tests, imagine if we hadn't persisted with him. Katich is a quality batsmen, and plays an important role in the ODI lineup.

Definitely, I think he showed us that he can bowl well under pressure by getting the wicket of Pollock with a nice delivery. He just wasn't bowling 100% against SL.

What are you talking about? Jaques innings was class, he played shots along the ground and a few in the air but was given out to a rubbish decision!
Jaques plays much better than Katich IMO.
