Katich has had a decent series, and is a class player.

" If it isn't broke don't fix it"

Not is a class player, "was" a class player. Did the guy you saw in England look like a class player? If so England have serious problems in picking class players!
He was a class player until the selectors gave him the axe even after he performed so well. Since then he hasn't been the same.
But I agree he hasn't done anything to deserve the axe although the selectors have done it to him before.

Katich is good at making 50's but He still hasn't scored a hundred. Its almost like he thinks his job is done when he gets 50. He needs to bat the innings He takes his time to get in so he damn well needs to stay in. And bat around Gilchrist, Ponting, Martyn, Symonds, etc. who with support can play a naturally aggressive way.

So Richie Benaud could still bowl and take 100 wickets in test match cricket cause class is permanent and he was class? ;)
Katich is not in a form slump, he has become more cautious. You watch his ODI inns in the VB Series and compare it with the 2003 India test series (Steve Waugh's last ever series) and you will see what I mean.

what happened to brad williams he performed well against india in 2003. i would say his better bowler than bracken

bracken just reminds me of a australian version of pathan, same with new zealands franklin

Ahh, but is he being more cautious because he is in a form slump? ;)

Hayden has become more cautious but hes clearly not in a form slump ;)

i cant understand the fascination with Katich at the top of the order either

but as sureshot said...he hasnt really done anything to warrant an axeing

I like him in the tests but in a ODI he is to slow which puts pressure on ponting and other batsman below to pick the run rate back up, that is warrent a sacking because we don't need that, we need to have someone who goes at about 90 strike rate, Jaques is perfect for that and I think will go well with Gilchrist, if those 2 fire it's look out!!!

Yep its his first time as mentioned in the article. He overtook McGrath to become number 1 in the world. Its only a matter of time before Hussey reaches number 1 in ODIs.

Good to see Lee on top, he deserves it seeing as all the work he has put in to alter his image as being a one-dimensional bowler, also becoming a vital part of the side. More evidence that a form slump doesn't affect players who have a strong enough mind to get back to their best, with Gilchrist back at the top. However there has been alot of poor bowling and not enough pressure placed upon him to keep his confidence down. Also, I don't think we'll be seeing Brad Williams coming back to state cricket anytime soon either... To be honest he was not taken care of all that well, he had extreme and raw pace as a young player and a great promise. Despite quite a few quality fast bowlers at the time, he probably should have been given a few more opportunities.

Williams was by far the best ING bowler until he left. Its a pity he threw his hissy fit because the selectors wouldn't pick him in the Pura cup side, he should have earned his spot back. Instead he pulls out of the ING cup team and thats the last I heard from him. Nothing new either as he threw a fit at the Aussie selectors for not picking him.
