KKD has played 33 ODIs in his career, and has FAILED in ninety percent of them. Seriously, is there really any need to keep such a crap cricketer as the reserve wicket keeper? There are loads of better and more talented players waiting in the queue, who deserve to be selected in the side as much as he does, in case something happens to Dhoni. What's the logic behind picking him again and again, then? He has to earn his place in the side by performing well in international cricket, and he is yet to do it as of now. Yet, this guy continues to get picked in every single match (where MSD is absent), whereas keepers teeming with talent like Wriddhiman Saha continue to get neglected.

Bengali bias, much? Saha is far too inexperienced. He had 1 good season.

If our selectors are gambling due to nonavailability of players Badri should be in XI, he will surely prove that he should have been selected earlier.

As usual they will go with D Karthik, its a big loss for India ,as they wont have their regular captain for 2 matches, but also a bastman who is in form..

I think what King Cricket is trying to say is that from the numerous opportunities that KKD has been given he hasn't been able to do anything special during that time.

If you look at his stats he has a very poor average against most of the top teams.

Ya @ Virat :selectors wanting to improvise players for 2011 WC so they are giving chance to him ....... But even i think he is not a best of batsmen when it comes to 50 over cricket but selectors are giving hope in him

@ Badrinath : If i was a selector i would bet that he would be in place of Virat i dont know why the selectors are just leaving behind the best of 50 overs cricketers he was the best of bats men in 1st ODI when India toured sri lank in 2008-2009 series (after Asia cup 2008) where he batted well against A.Mendis who threatened Indian batting line up In Asia cup 2008 final just before the Toure between the two country's..........

What wrong has Kohli done? He was able to get us back on track after we lost our openers early in the 2nd ODI (with the help of Dhoni) and he did play a very good innings. He is still very young and quite inexperienced though he is quite a matured cricketer for his age. He has the potential to flourish into a good ODI batsman and at the moment he is showing good signs.

This over-rate incident reminds me of a match back in the days when Ganguly was captain, where he wasn't aware that the over-rate laws had changed and that they did not deduct overs from the chasing team's quota, any more.

Regarding the Ponting issue that someone brought up, the reason is that the ICC has clamped down on the issue only recently (in the last year). According to this article from about a month back, Ponting would have been in all sorts of trouble if the rule had been made a couple of years back.

Anyways, 2 ODI's does seem a bit excessive given that this appears to be Dhoni's first recorded offense (let's face it, almost every captain in international cricket is guilty of slow over-rate), although if the delay was indeed 45 minutes, that's approximately a fifth of the allotted time for the innings, which is quite a bit!

I totally Agree with that . He has worked hard and is very consistent at the domestic level too.
But there is someone else who's been waiting for a chance. He's a bowler-Sudeep Tyagi. He's been on the benches for the series against Australia and now for this one too.

I would have selected Badri in place of Kohli and Tyagi in place of Nehra. Nehra just couldn't handle the pressure in the death overs.

And the selectors have brought back Ishant Sharma...if he takes wickets, its good for India but then, what was the point in giving him a rest? The 2nd T20 match was just 5 days ago! Aaaaaaaaand, to replace a bowler, they are bringing a bowler from outside instead of playing Tyagi who's been waiting for ages and who is in the squad.

Triva of Team India in this series is that they seems to do well in the depth overs where batsmen tend to get runs and leek runs from 1st over .........

I would have selected Badri in place of Kohli and Tyagi in place of Nehra. Nehra just couldn't handle the pressure in the death overs.

Virat Kohli has done really well with the chances he has been given. He has scored 3 50's out of which two have come away from home. And his 50 in the last game was the best since he came in when we were in a little bit of trouble having lost two of our best ever batsman in the current lineup (Sehwag and Gambhir). He had to rebuild with Sachin and he did it really well. Virat is our bright future.
