South Africa vs England 1st Test, Day 3 - Lunch Break!
Another intruging session for both sides England have performed with the bat and with patiance not many batsman have the calm as Strauss but hey it needed to be done and it has been but England will feel they still have a job at hand here...
Highlights!
Let's start with Englands start witht he bat, it was important they didnt collapse and kept their cool and build a slow and steady Innings which is exactly what happened or it wouldnt have happened if Strauss didnt keep his cool he had some chances though, big inside edges and a few streaky shots and some close LBW appeals but then again you need some luck to suceed and he has done so with a splended Innings of 100+ but played a slog shot which got him out, it really wasnt needed may KP influnced him into the stroke with his style of hitting?
The other half of England have tried to do the same as Strauss none else has got over 50 yet Vaughan came close and looked to be set for a biggy but he wasnt as he was bowled by a lovely in-swinger by Kalis who is having a super day so far with bat and ball, Trescothick went early to a ball that kept low and KP once again failing to reach a milestone in this test it may be his downfall but we must not speak so soon...
South Africa vs England 1st Test - England Cruise Home!
They have done it with some style and ease, England have finally got a Test win under their belt after a thrashing at the hands of Australia this team seems to have put their heads together and kick of the year with an amazing victory.
The South African's showed some fight we thought it was game on even though Hoggard took 3 crucial wickets near the end of Day 4 the Protea batsman were looking in fine nick. Unitil Jimmy Anderson turned it on with a late dismisal which was an absoloute beauty lovely swinger to get De Villiers. Then 1st ball next morning Bouchers off peg went for a spin and despite some stick from Pollock and Nel they got through after Pollock was run out it was game over...
England will be high on confidence there are things to work on but alot of positives have come from this game and will definatly give them the upper hand in the next test, we know South Africa wont be down they fight till the bitter end and thats what were expecting...
Man Of The Match!
This was hard to decide apaprently after some smashing performances with bat and ball it was difficult to know who should get it, the race was between Strauss and Anderson obviously Strauss for his handy work and Jimmy for the work in the end.
We discovered after much suspense that Jimmy Anderson was awarded M.O.M for his match winning performance and 5-fer in the end of the Innings and rightfully so Jimmy is back in and in full fledge!
We will join you next time and hopefully it will be as good as this bye for now! M.O.M:James Anderson! Final Scorecards & Statistics!
England are 1-0 up no time to get complacent it is the first time they have won a test since the English summer, so they will feel happy and high....but there is a job to be done here and they must understand that or it wont be pretty, the team are in form and the next test starting soon they will hope to take that form into the next match.
So lets hear from the capitan of the side Michael Vaughan...
Michael Vaughan:Were really happy with the way we batted and bowled, our team showed that when the job is needed to be done there not afraid to step up to the challenge, and an example of that is Jimmy Anderson bowled amazingly in the death Innings and hopefully we can do the same throught this tour.
Theres some thought about the opening pair but we think they need to just get oging then they can really set the wheels in motion, so were looking to og unchanged.
South Africa Feel Robbed!
South Africa fell to a sorry defeat which really should have been there game as they batted so well in the 1st Innings Smith had some to say but he can only rally his troops.
The Proteas also felt they were robbed....or more like they robbed themself..........well just take a look at what he had to say!
Greame Smith:Ummm well we didnt bat like we can and thats what let us down to be honest we played some shots that didnt need to be played and we had more than enough time, but thats past we have to look forward to the next match and I know that my team is fully capable on winning this series.
I say we robbed ourself because we had two options one to win and one to collapse and we did that later so hopefully this won't be the case in a few days time, and we might bring the spinner in...
So here we are in the start of the 2nd test match both teams will be keen to get off to a solid start especially with the conditions being good for a cracker of a match its up to both teams to make full use of the conditions heres the update from the middle... The Toss & The Conditions!
Well first of all lets start with the pitch and air conditions, the pitch looks good for batting but it is hard so if the bowlers can get some bounce and stick to the basics there may be a chance for wickets early on, its one of them tracks where the batsman has to get his eye in, the overhead conditions are good and sunny through out the day there should be some swing and it might not seam as much be may do some of the wicket, should be a good contest between batsman and bowler today and maybe throught the whole test match, and hopefully the whole series!
The toss was crucial and Smith won it and elected to bat first which was wise and England will have to bowl very well to get some early breakthrough's which may lead to a collapse but due to the conditions if batsman get in it will be hard to get them out so good bowling required and South Africa have a great chance to get back into the series!
The Teams!
There have been a few changes in the line-ups some key players out but some others put in should be good to see if the inserted players do the team good...
