he's just a slogger....anyone with big enough shoulders could do that...Rudolph is overall more talented...slogging doesnt make the batsman.

hmm slogger???

reminds me of chris cairns

Yeah, thanks for that, I only thought he should of come in before Ruldolph and Prince because he actually can hit boundarys. Rudolph and Prince didn't even attempt it. He hit some good shots down the ground.

LOL. Your trying to annoy me, but its not working. I think your alone in the 'Cairns is a slogger' argument. He is a batsman.

Do you consider Symonds a slogger too?

the problem is that us aussies expect these guys to come in and kill their prey asap. just like lee did against india. and when this doesn't happen, which is most likely, we just toss them aside.

I would say this is more common in English selection systems.

Anyway, in no way is Cairns a slogger, he's a brilliant batsman. Similar to saying Flintoff is a slogger, no way, he plays straight, has a temperament and a balance between sensible and agressive strokeplay when required. We cannot really make the assesment of Van De Wath being a slogger yet. Yes he was loose, but natural. He was just trying to score quick runs in a lost battle for some interest and respect. Having the ability to score quick runs too often leads to the pre-conceived idea of slogging.
I understand that SA are disadvantaged in the injury department, but they bat so far down, they really need to find a more suitable combination, something that NZ has been working on quite well lately.

i think if south africa had a fully fit squad then they would be the dominate team in this series

they are really missing the pace and bounce of ntini

Its good to see the old pair of Atapattu and Jayasuriya back at the top of the order. Where was this all series? Atapattu hits his highest score this series and if the middle order backed him up SL could have made an even better score.

But Vass has ripped through SA top order, again where has this been?

yeh right...australia would still have dominated

the south africans would have been a bit more competitive thats all

The VB series has a good match at last! Smith is now hitting form, he has his first 50 for the series. It come dam late but at least the big names are hitting form. This chase is going to be very interesting. SA look in the box seat.

The match is brilliantly balanced with Smith crawling back to form. Personally I hope South Africa win the match so they can have some more confidence and composure before the return series, and also with Smith getting a feel for the crease once again, as he is capable of making very big scores which is why the test series was a bit disappointing. The captain scoring runs will also help the overall team morale I feel.

Well the thing is, SL would give Aus a better fight on the pitches the finals are going to be held. Adelaide and the SCG both suit SL more than SA. Especially the SCG, but I personally don't mind which team plays us.

Take a Miracle for RSA to win, so I guess it will be a AUS vs SL Final series, which is not really what the Auessies wanted but oh well.

Prince has just fallen and RSA are now 6 down with over 100 runs to get, not gonna happen.

121 in 17.3 overs isn't impossible. If Pollock stays in SA will win, if he gets out, game over!

Although van der Wath showed he can hit some biggies last game.

s. lanka wins and now they r in the finals to compete with australia, magic happens this time but wont work in finals, australia will win the series.

I wouldn't write off SL, they beat as at the SCG and if they can win the toss there they could be in with a shot at winning. SL are also good hopes in Adelaide where the pitch starts to slow up.

Quite a pathetic effort from SA to be bowled out for 181. They really should have put up more of a fight despite losing quick wickets. Australia are undoubtedly the favourites but as was mentioned SL have performed well in the past in Sydney and Adelaide, so it'll be interesting.

Australia got lot of batsman to play with, especially gilly, ponting, martyn, clarke, symonds, hussey etc. if from one of them will bat sensibly then no one can stop them, not even a spin bowling attack, if they bat first then hopes to see a big total from aussies.
