Story The Challenge - A Battrick Story

BT20 Preview

Right. Since I won't be doing a preview everyday, I've decided to do a preview of all 7 of our BT20 matches at once.

Match 1: 03/09/2007, The Blind Society v Peters Utd
Preview: Definately a loss. Peters Utd. just promoted to Division 1, and are way, way out of our league. Mpho will play, Bonner still rested. We will be Taking It Easy.

Match 2: 04/09/2007, Crouching Tigers v The Blind Society
Preview: A division 3 team, but still out of our reach. Mpho will play here as well, Bonner rested. Another loss. Another TIE.

Match 3: 05/09/2007, The Blind Society v Indy
Preview: Another home game, another loss. Indy are a division 2 team, much ahead of us. Bonner might play this game, which will be another TIE.

Match 4: 06/09/2007, The Blind Society v Chinaman XI
Preview: This is winnable. The team is 2 seasons old, but still in division 4 and doesn't have any real threats in the squad. Chances are they will still beat us, but if we put in a good performance we can pull of an upset. GFI here, Mpho might play over Bonner.

Match 5: 07/09/2007, NYC v The Blind Society
Preview: Nope. A very strong division 3 team. TIE, and rest some guys.

Match 6: 10/09/2007, The Blind Society v wootton wanderers
Preview: Another good division 3 team after the 2-day break. Unlikely to beat them at, so will be a TIE and resting some players. Or maybe we might just go GFI and try to get an upset. Not sure yet...

Match 7: 11/09/2007, Gayle Force Pirates v The Blind Society
Preview: The final BT20 game of the season, and a game we can win. A season-old division 4 team with a squad more or less like ours. GFI, full strength with probably Mpho playing over Bonner.

Not many winnable games there. But we will take quite a few positives out of this - experience for the players, so more cash, and hopefully they can put up a good show in the matches.

Net Sessions!!

Well, today was training day, and I must say, it was rather interesting! Training a bunch of blind cricketers was fun and enlightining, although rather dangerous at times! After 3 hours of bowling, batting, ducking stray balls and pushing the guys out of their path, there were some positives to be gained:
+ Bonner looked a lot better this week. Didn't tire as easy, got through a couple of overs more than normal.
+ Brookes has shown signs that he is much more focused than before. This probably explains his good knocks in the last few matches.
+ Elvins, Floors, Gomez, Gooding, and Mpho all showed signs of improvement.

So a modest week, but nice to see the team still improving.

Zorax will challenge you tomorrow and you will face my weakest team as I need stamina to increase for my top players

A Mod said there might be an option to have a Twenty20 friendly, that Allan is working on it for this week. I don't know if it is confirmed or not, but if it is, challenge me to one of those.

Blind Society get OWNED!!!
Bowled out for 10, match over in 27 deliveries!

The Blind Society got a lesson in cricket here today in their first BT20 match of the season against division 1 team Peter's Utd.
Batting first, the Blind Society were dismissed for a record-low 10 runs. Brookes top scored with 6 -hitting the innings only boundary- in an innings with an amazing 8 ducks, with 2 runs from extras and 2 from Denis Holmshaw. Seamer Jerrell Longmead took an amazing 7 wickets for 1 run in 2 overs, including a hattrick in the first over. Spinner Ed Terry took 3/9. The innings was completed in 3.5 overs.
In reply, opening batsman and captain Tommy Silk hit a four and a six off Aaron Floors to wrap up the runchase in 4 balls.
Skipper Lewis Carey and manager Zorax were unavailble for comment.

Full match details and scorecard can be found here.

The Ownage continues!
Bowled out for 30, captian notes improvement!

The Blind Society were bowled out for 30 in todays BT20 match. Stearman top scored with 16 in yet another poor batting display. The innings was done in 9 overs, medium pacer Juan taking 4/1 in 2 overs, including a hattrick -becoming a habit with the Blind Society batting. Stearman hit one six and no fours in his innings, with Brookes and Camebridge hitting the other boundaries. Openers Davis and Meadowcroft chased down the target in 3.5 overs, Meadowcroft hitting 3 fours and a six in the progress and winning the Man of the Match award.
We caught up with skipper Lewis Carey, who simply stated "Hey, it's better than last time right? And at this rate, we should be scoring 200 in a few games!" before scurrying away.

My team gives you company Zorax :) Hunting Tigers are also owned at the moment because of the poor fitness level. They are struggling like anything :( and lost two games in a row.

Better luck for upcoming games.

Challenge sent, its not Twenty20 unless they changed them all

TBS go down by 6 wickets!
Holmshaw blazes fifty in fighting effort!

The Blind Society lost to Indy by 6 wickets today here at the Z-Dome. But it was a much improved performance, TBS posting 137 all out in 19.3 overs and taking four wickets in 17.2 before Indy knocked over the target.
After winning the toss, Indy skipper Taggart sent The Blind Society in to bat. It looked like the same old story when Frankie Gomez was bowled for 4 and the score at 9/1. But Haishen and Holmshaw had other plans, and together blazed a fantastic 83 run partnership. Holmshaw whacked 52 off just 26 balls, clubbing 6 fours and a massive 3 sixes. Haishen scored a run-a-ball 38 with 4 fours and a six. But once the pair were dismissed, not much was left to come. Stearman dissapointed by scoring 6, as did Bonner and Brookes with 5 and 0 respectively. Mavuso held the tail a bit with a 24 ball 22 with a six and 2 fours, but it wasn't enough as they collapsed to 137 all out. Bonner and Stearman did manage a boundary each.
In reply, Mpho struck in his first over to trap Smallpiece LBW for 1. Floors then removed Norris with a catch in the deep, and Camebridge took two wickets in an over as Indy were rocked at 34/4. But the Blind Society bowlers couldn't sustain the pressure, and Davenport (81 off 48)
and Taggart (55 off 41) clubbed a mighty 87 run partnership to take the team home with plenty of time to spare. Between them they hit 14 boundaries and 5 big ones, Davenport winning the Man of the Match award.
Lewis Carey -who didn't feature in today's game- was available for comment. "It was a good performance, showing great signs of improvement. Denis (Holmshaw) was skipper today, and that affected his batting in a positive way. The team Indy put out today was far from their best, and some people would say we should have beat them, but they were still quite a bit better than us. We felt we had a chance by having them at 34/4, but we couldn't sustain the pressure. Hopefully, we'll improve this aspect of our game over time and with more experience. Matches like this just give us more exposure."

You keep on getting owned in the BT20's. I just keep on losing in them to pretty good opposition. Keep up the good work! :)

The Blind Society make it 4 in 4!
Suffer 135 run loss, players exhausted.

The Blind Society have suffered yet another loss here at the Z-Dome.
After winning the toss, Chinaman XI skipper Wellens elected to bat. His decision payed off as they ammassed a massive 220/1 in their 20 overs, the skipper himself clubbing 108 off 63 balls with 12 boundaries and 3 sixes. Fellow opener Emblen got close with 98 not out, featuring 8 fours and 4 sixes. Number three Jongikhaya hit two fours and a double in 3 balls to end the innings. Skipper Lewis Carey was the only wicket taker with 1/39 - also the most economical figures.
In reply The Blind Society collapsed to 85 all out. Stearman hit a scorching 36 off 15 with five boundaries and a six. Apart from him, only Holmshaw and Brookes got into double figures. Holmshaw and Elvins each hit a six, while Brookes struck two fours and Haishen one. Chinaman XI spinner Elsegood took 3/10.
After the match, Lewis Carey was reported saying "We are exhausted!" before exiting the ground. Manager Zorax said that "the team has never played so much cricket in so little time" and that it is "killing their fitness"
The team has another BT20 match scheduled today, before they get a day off. They then play The Top Class Kids in a 50 over friendly and then have another two BT20 matches scheduled.

I do not regret my decision. It's not like I didn't expect these losses, I got a tough BT20 group. But this is just BT20. I'm earning cash, and that's all that I aim to get out of this. I won't gain more members or morale by winning here, or lose any by losing, so it makes no difference. And my OD League is quite winnable, so that is fine. Next season should be a lot better.

Penguins excel, but yet to win
Pine climbs ranks

The 20/20 matches werent easy, and the penguins havent wonm, but Effine sure has found positives.

Matchfixing Bookies v Sneaky Penguins:
Impossible to win. A div 3 team. Gave it a shot, No positives in bowling, but Hillers short resistance was a good omen.

Matchfixing Bookies - 235/0
Sneaky Penguins - 52/10

Sneaky Penguins v Floripa batters:
Tougher than first. Rested all good players. Yet again unsucessful bowling, but Pines 44 off 40 was impressive.

Floripa Batters - 204/0
Sneaky Penguins - 117/10

Spicy Lambburgers v Sneaky Penguins:
An equal contender, but the Lambburgers had the upperhand. Fabian put up a great knock of 90 off 46 while the rest collapsed. The opponents scored the target of 144 with 2 balls to spare. Takes losing streak to 5 matches.

Sneaky Penguins - 143/10
Spicy Lambburgers - 144/3

Sneaky Penguins v Roraima:
The match that broke our losing streak. Yet again some poor bowling, but Hiller, Pine and Burger made up for the mess that the bowlers made. The match annoyingly ended in a tie.

Roraima - 188/1
Sneaky Penguins - 188/7

Ballard v Sneaky Penguins:
Yet again no hope. Best players rested. managed 42/10 against a good bowling attack. Lisbie hitting a surprising 20 off 18. The match ended in 16.1 overs.

Sneaky Penguins - 42/10
Ballard - 46/0
